I have not yet told you about my conversation with the canvasser...

For your delectation - this is the conversation I had with the local election canvasser last week (NB: namechanged to avoid outing myself!):

Canvasser - who is a prominent local LibDem I've met before a few times and chatted with - rings the bell on the evening of voting day to check whether we've voted yet.

I told him yes, I've voted LD on account of their good local team and being anti-Brexit, but had to hold my nose rather this time on account of the national party's line on women's issues. (I am trying to work on the "changing from within" basis for now, rather than quit in protest!).

Canvasser - oh really? Tell me more...

So I got in a bit about their policies on prostitution etc (which I don't agree with at all), before moving onto the self-ID debate and that (in)famous Twitter account.

Canvasser - a somewhat older gentleman, probably not very up to speed with this stuff, looks slightly lost but agrees it's all very confusing.

Then HE says to ME, jokingly..."Well, I'm surprised some 40-year-old man hasn't yet said they identify as a 4-year-old girl so they can get put in with the kids...."

So I says, "Well, actually...." Blush Blush

.. and yes, dear reader, I did then proceed to introduce the canvasser to the delightful Steph on Knee Blush Grin

I swear I wouldn't have gone there though, if he hadn't said that first!

Do you think I peak transed him? Grin Grin

Ha!!! Love it! I hope he does go back and mention it to his colleagues at least.

Ereshkigal · 13/05/2018 01:27

Lol Grin can imagine his face!

LaSqrrl · 13/05/2018 02:03

Love it! Well done!
Did he Peak Trans after being told of 'Steph on Knee'?

Wanderabout · 13/05/2018 08:05

What was his reaction?

Wanderabout · 13/05/2018 08:05

Did you show him a picture?

Opheliah · 13/05/2018 08:14

Blimey! Stephonknee of all the chats to have with a canvasser!

Has that LGBTLD Twitter account had some problems does anyone know? It was a transwoman's own self publicity twitter account and didn't seem to like gay people or women very much.

BigGreenOlives · 13/05/2018 08:17

I raised it with the conservative candidate who came round & told him I was unable to vote for any party supporting self-ID. Lib Dems sent me masses of letters, fliers etc but no one rang our door bell.

AngstySpanksey · 13/05/2018 08:42

I didn’t speak to a canvasser but I did get a phone call from the Labour Party asking why I had resigned my membership. Unfortunately the poor man caught me with full on raging PMT and I gave him a very long speech as to why i’ve left. The upshot of it was why should I support a party that dismisses women’s concerns and allows MRA’s to bully women incessantly on social media without consequence.
He said I should I should email membership with my concerns a “they will listen.” Well they haven’t yet.
I did get the impression that what I was saying was a common theme and I was not the first person to say this. I suspect labour have lost far more members than they are admitting.

EmpressOfSpartacus · 13/05/2018 08:46

And openly celebrating the departure of women members on social media probably isn't helping.

Conservatives are supporting the sex-based exemptions and a consultation, which at least has to be a good thing.

AngryAttackKittens · 13/05/2018 08:48

Stephonknee is a one man peak trans machine.

MargeH · 13/05/2018 08:54

Oh my. First encounter with Stephonknee. Shock

His children must be mortified.

AngryAttackKittens · 13/05/2018 09:01

Especially the one whose wedding he tried to ruin by iirc threatening to kill himself if she wouldn't let him attend in one of his Little Bro Peep outfits.

MargeH · 13/05/2018 09:43

The guy is clearly a publicity-seeing chancer or mad as a box of frogs. However, as he has identified as a female, albeit a child, presumably Canadians are obliged to go along with this nonsense?

Never mind women's toilets and changing rooms, this example surely shows the unintended consequences of well-intentioned but dangerously flawed legislation.

I wouldn't let him within a mile of my DG

LangCleg · 13/05/2018 09:49

Poor little Lib Dem canvasser! Well done, OP!

I also did this a couple of weeks back. It was, I admit, highly satisfying. I felt a bit bad at the end cos when I finished, the poor person said, "Well, thank you for that. I think I need a coffee break before I call anyone else."

Poor person at the phone bank, can you imagine how often they're hearing this stuff? Not that anyone they tell higher up will listen or care.
