Like China before it revoked the one child policy there is a cultural preference for boys which has resulted in the deaths and abandonment of unwanted baby girls. Apparently China still has that preference so is continuing its problems with a lack of women just as an aside - because when it comes to misogyny people just don't learn. So here we are, it makes me feel sick, sad and helpless. Babies murdered for having female biology because the culture they are born into doesn't value them.

That's awful when there are many childless couples in the West who would adopt a baby.

The only way to address these sorts of things is to address the underlying misogyny.

If girls and women are seen as low-value barely-people then what does it matter if they die? It's like killing a dog or a goat.

The denial that sex based oppression exists is just insult to injury really isn't it. It says, it is imprortant to me on a philosophical level that these young are not labelled as female, therefore I will ignore this atrocity, because it gives evidence that goes against my view. Not that this has been said about this in particular, but certainly FGM and charities working with menstruation have come under attack. The narrative in general is that these babies were coercively assigned female at birth by and presumably also by the people who found the bodies, it's incorrect to say they were female based on seeing their bodies.

I think Sardine is agreeing that they were killed because of their biology, and pointing out that we can't tackle misogyny if we don't say that.

It makes perfect sense to me.

If a mass grave of any other group (Christians, Muslims, Jews, etc) had been uncovered there would be an international out cry with politicians discussing genocide but the ongoing persecution and murder of females seems invisible.

No I'm sure they don't think that. I thought that was effective writing tbh. Probably many of these babies were dumped and died of exposure. It takes an unbelievable lack of humanity to carry out the positive act referred to. I don't have a problem with the journalist making readers think of that.

I do take your point but they all died dreadfully. Where through positive action or in action iyswim.

I had to force myself to read that because I knew it would be horrifying and i'd rather carry on not really knowing that this goes on in the world right now.

I wish the poor snowflakes bleating on with hand written gender neutral toilet signs would read this stuff, pause for even one minute, and consider what sex based oppression means for those who can't identify out

As a westerner I really can’t get my head around it. I mean if men could have babies and do everything on their own then fair enough, make women the bottom of pile. But given men can’t have babies and look after families why isn’t it valued? Even if woman “just” produce sons?

This is horrendous. Women the world over are second class citizens but to do this to babies is barbaric. How on earth can anyone pick up stones and do that to a baby - just how?

I've no words. Just horrible.

Heartbreaking and horrifying. This is why when it comes to international laws, we need to keep pushing for sex based protections, as opposed to gender identity or gender expression recognition. Females are killed and abused in their masses because of their biology, not because of the clothes they wear, the hairstyle they have or the cosmetics they do or do not apply to their face. They're babies ffs.

Completely agree with the pp about western couples being desperate for babies. If only they had the drop boxes like some places in America. If they are too fucking stupid to see that they will not be able to reproduce without women in the future, then let the unwanted baby girls go to a loving family somewhere else. Or are females too filthy and unworthy of even that?
