...Germaine Greer in Victoria Station this evening. Really wanted to tell her I supported her gender critical stance, but was too scared Shock

My DH once asked this guy for directions just near Covent Garden and it turned out to be Anthony Head. I had no idea he was in such good company- I shall tell him when I get home!

MumOfThrMoos · 25/04/2018 17:43

Also, on topic, I am going to see Germaine Greer speak at the Hay Festival in a few weeks!

I am quite excited!!

See? That should've been me. Go on, I bet he was Really Nice, wasn't he? Grin

  1. Haven’t encountered Nick Knowles either. I don’t get out much.
UserV · 25/04/2018 19:22

I wouldn't have cared less. Can't stand the woman.

Gacapa · 25/04/2018 19:43

I once sat in between Germaine Greer and Anthony Head on a flight to New York!

Ok, I didn't...but that'd be all kinds of aces!

MumOfThrMoos · 25/04/2018 19:45

@SheGotBetteDavisEyes

Apparently he was really helpful and very nice, yes!

How did you guess????

PositivelyPERF · 25/04/2018 19:47

How dare GG not be nice! Didn’t she read the memo?

ArcheryAnnie · 25/04/2018 20:02

I am entirely unsurprised that GG may be a diva. I am also eternally grateful to her for writing The Female Eunuch, which I read at 16 and which - literally, not metaphorically - changed my life. I'd had a mild eating disorder for some years (like too many pre-teen and teenage girls), and I can pinpoint The Female Eunuch as the point where I consciously thought "it doesn't always have to be like this", and stopped obsessively dieting. It didn't fix my relationship with food by any means, but it made me aware of it in a broader context.

UpstartCrow · 25/04/2018 20:21

I like to think I could have muttered, "thank you" but I would probably have cried or thrown up.

I think I would have blurted out 'I'm reading your book' far too loudly and asked her to sign it before remembering a) she has written more than one book and b) I dont carry it around Grin

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 25/04/2018 20:26

I went to see GG in a debate in Cambridge many moons ago. I remember her having enormous presence and authority. She could have said practically anything and people would have agreed with her. Just as well she decided use her power for good!

I too have never met Anthony Head ( probably because he doesn’t come to Yorkshire much) but I’m happy to report that Gregg Wallace is a twat

SherbrookeFosterer · 25/04/2018 21:39

Send her a note via her agent:

[email protected]

I am sure she would be delighted to hear from you.

BreakWindandFire · 25/04/2018 22:07

Oh, I thought this was going to be a general 'who have you seen on a train?' thread. With many appearances from Anthony Head and much enthusing about how nice he is

I have met Anthony Head. On a train. It broke down and we all ended up at a rough pub next to Newport station waiting for a replacement. He was lovely. Grin

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 25/04/2018 22:12

This made me GrinPositively.

GG could be the biggest evilbitchcowfromhell as a person and that wouldn't change her contribution to feminism or her status as a cultural icon imao, but other opinions are available!

OlennasWimple · 25/04/2018 22:30

I knew it!!!!

terryleather · 25/04/2018 22:34

GW gives me the heave but I adore AH because he is Giles and can therefore do no wrong in my eyes.

PositivelyPERF · 25/04/2018 23:03

I totally agree with your last comment. We have enough ‘nice’ females and they’re not well known because they get ignored. Does anyone really think GG would be as well known and influential if she had played ‘nice’? She had to be a ball buster to get past all the mansplaining and misogynistic bullshit, in order to get heard. I’ve never met her and might dislike her as a person, if I did, but by fuck I respect her.

Bugjune · 26/04/2018 01:47

I would've been scared too, she's a fearsome but fucking fabulous woman.

AliciaSJ · 26/04/2018 02:27

There's a saying that's on lots of cards and mugs etc at the moment

'Well behaved women rarely make history'.

I think this applies to Ms Greer!

Bubbinsmakesthree · 26/04/2018 07:35

I only came on this thread to say I once sat next to....

Antony Head Grin

Floisme · 26/04/2018 07:42

I can't believe that even on a thread in Feminist chat, we're talking about whether or not Germaine Greer is a nice person.

MN linking to FWR in 'Discussions of the Day' - embargo lifted?
