Ride For Murdered Women

Hi. I was told to let Mumsnet know about my project.

I am currently cycling for women murdered by men they knew. I dedicate each ride in the honour of a woman killed as a result of domestic violence.

I completed 94 rides for women murdered in 2016 and am on ride 46 today of women murdered in 2017.

Sadly it seems I will never run out of women to cycle for as the bodies keep coming.

You can read about who I rode for last year here. jeanhatchet.blogspot.co.uk/2017/10/ride-for-murdered-women-2016.html?m=1

I donate any money raised to Wearside Women In Need who have their services under horrible threat. So far money raised has gone to fund an IDVA (Independent Domestic Violence Advisor)

I post my rides on Twitter but am happy to do it here too if that would be ok?

Yesterday I completed ride #45 for Celine Dookhran whose uncle kidnapped her, raped her and then slit her throat before hiding her body. None of the details are easy. Femicide is not easy.

I’ve already donated Jean and will again in future. I think you’re amazing and your twitter posts are incredibly humbling.

Thank you.

Ratherbehome · 22/04/2018 16:23

Thank you for sharing Jean. That link was hard to read but thank you for sharing it and for remembering those women, and I hope the money you raise helps to save a lot of women from abuse.

exLtEveDallas · 22/04/2018 16:25

Thanks Jean. I haven't donated yet this year, will do now.

"The bodies keep coming" is a chilling statement. Good on you for trying to make something good out of something evil.

IamXXHearMeRoar · 22/04/2018 16:29

That page makes for chilling reading, I hope your quest to raise awareness is successful. Good luck.

It's an amazing project Jean. Thanks So important to remember these women.

GrimSqueaker · 26/04/2018 20:09

For number 55... thank you. Old school friend and I still remember how utterly chilling the feeling was finding out what had happened to her.

LaSqrrl · 26/04/2018 22:00

Very nice tribute to these women Jean, well done.

Jeanhatchet · 27/04/2018 18:22

@GrimSqueaker I am so sorry. I rode for an extra woman last year Marina Warner because her friend asked me to. She was killed many years ago by her friend still cannot forget or forgive. Sending you love xx

Hi Jean I can’t find the link to donate on your page, do you have a direct link?

ANameforToday · 27/04/2018 18:46

This is a nice tribute to these women. I think I remember reading about you a while ago and some criticism you were getting so I'm glad that you have continued. I'm thankful that I'm here to have the sleepless night that I did after reading their stories last night. I'll be more than happy to donate.

Jeanhatchet · 27/04/2018 19:27

@WishingOnABar I don't think I'm allowed to post a link?
