Gotta love Private Eye! Could they be lurking?.. Sweet cartoon, latest issue (1467), poses serious questions about changing identity.

😄

I lurve PE more than ever since the transcult got going.

DNAnotGRA · 08/04/2018 11:54

Very good, shows up the insanity when common sense goes out of the window

AngryAttackKittens · 08/04/2018 11:58

Was expecting vampires, am disappointed. Maybe we could draw little fangs on the bunnies?

If an angry TRA Twitter storm was aimed at Private Eye that would be worth watching.

LigneCoureur · 08/04/2018 12:03

Funny how the TRAs never seem to go after Ian Hislop.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 08/04/2018 12:16

I doubt IH would give a shit/of course they don’t.

Elendon · 08/04/2018 12:21

But it is based on gender stereotype norms such as mum wearing an apron - who does this?

But it is good and I get it.

DisturblinglyOrangeScrambleEgg · 08/04/2018 12:23

My MIL does - it's her signal to her brain that she's no-longer working, and is to stop thinking about it (she has a home office that she works from, so has had to find a creative way to put herself 'off-duty') - although she doesn't wear it all the time, just when she's in the kitchen.

Ereshkigal · 08/04/2018 12:24

Elendon, I rather think the apron was an invention of the Sylvanian families makers, rather than PE. But also difficult to get the point across without stereotyping.

LassWiADelicateAir · 08/04/2018 12:46

Me - always when cooking or on the rare occasions I do house cleaning. Husband never does.

mirialis · 08/04/2018 12:49

Sylvanian Families is set in the 1950s.

misscockerspaniel · 08/04/2018 13:10

TRAs won't go after Ian Hislop because they rarely attack straight males. They only go for women and those trans who have come out against self-id because they perceive us to be easy, worthless targets.

frazzled1 · 08/04/2018 13:17

Good point misscocker.

Made me chuckle... thank you!

MrsKCoulter · 08/04/2018 13:21

Isn't the gender stereotyping sort of the point?

womanformallyknownaswoman · 08/04/2018 13:23

I love that cartoon :)

user1487175389 · 08/04/2018 13:23

That's the point the cartoon is making : all gende cultists do is metaphorically 'take the apron off' a 1950s mum and give it to dad (who then becomes 'mum). Same stereotypes, different chromosomes. When it's the stereotypes themselves that need to get in the sea.

JellySlice · 08/04/2018 14:25

I always wear an apron when cooking, dh never does. Nothing to do with gender norms - I'm messy, he isn't.

Anyway, nothing wrong with gender norms per se. They are only a problem when imposed upon people.

In the context of this cartoon they are very useful cues.

mirialis · 08/04/2018 14:56

I think it's very clever on a number of levels...

IndominusRex · 08/04/2018 16:28

They've done a few good ones in PE.

Anatidae · 08/04/2018 16:31

I recently got an overseas subscription to private eye - voice of sanity indeed.

Carry on with the excellent journalism and clear eyed satire!

Kochabrising · 08/04/2018 16:33

Slowly now...

That
Is
The
Point
Of
The
Cartoon

Look it’s not funny if you have to explain it 🤦🏻‍♀️

frazzled1 · 21/05/2018 18:05

More sly satire from PE (1470). Luckily Hislop's a man. So that's alright then......

There are times when PE is on-target. Great cartoon. Oh, and I loved the cover, too.

loveyouradvice · 21/05/2018 21:39

Yup - go you Private Eye! The more the better... seriously funny and will help peak trans many!

OlennasWimple · 22/05/2018 20:24

And this is why TRAs are clearly more concerned with shutting women up than winning the argument - where are the vehement attacks against IH? Calls for him to be banned from the Beeb? No? Wonder why not...
