Transitioning children and FGM

I've been GC and a radical feminist for ages, and I think Lily Madigan peak-transed me - as a woman and (past) member of the Labour Party -
they do not represent me at all.

I've been lurking on these threads and reading all the amazing brave women and trans women who post on them.

This week I had to do a safeguarding course on FGM for a new job. It emphasised throughout the course that FGM is completely unacceptable and to ignore any accusations of racism or cultural insensitivity.

Helen from Mermaids could so be accused of male genital mutilation of her son/daughter and by the same reasoning we should be ignoring all the shouting of transphobia and protecting these vulnerable children.

I hope it's not too long until there's a government child protection course saying just that but I'm not too optimistic.

OP, I think we'll eventually get there but sadly it will be after significant harm has happened to some children where adults stood back for fear of being accused of intolerance and bigotry.

I've already posted this today but it bears reading again and again. It's the judgement in a case where a young child was repeatedly let down by professionals who ignored a mother's emotional abuse because she was claiming (against all the evidence) that he was a girl. They acted on her beliefs and ignored the actual harm being done to the child.

IANAL, and maybe there's a counter-argument, but I rather think there's going to be an enormous legal backlash at some point by adults who, as children, were put on puberty blockers by adults who knew, or should have known, that this would have lifelong consequences for the children that the children had no conception of.

Hold your hats.

It's practically impossible to get help for a child who feels as though they are trans without blockers/hormones/surgery being a huge focus.

It is a terrifying situation to be in to have a child feeling suicidal and the only support being offered is if you accept puberty blockers.

There are a lot of scared parents out there, the whole children/trans thing is an absolute mess and is only serving the TRAs right now.
