Today I spoke out about sexual harassment and women in tech

Just that, really.

Today I told my managing director how I had been sexually harrassed as a young graduate hire, how I ended up taking the whole story to HR and how the man who did this to me was not only not fired but was promoted to senior management a mere year after being given a formal warning due to what happened to me.

I was terrified and I'm still shaken from the experience, but I went there anyway because - due to the circumstances - he needed to know.

And, seeing as I had gone there already, I thought to myself 'in for a penny, in for a pound' and went onto a minor rant about how women in the tech industry have it harder despite our employers all being on a massive 'diversity' crusade these days.

I then spent the rest of a whole-day event pointing out instances of casual sexism.

I massively recommend going there because men in senior positions need to hear from us!

No major point to this thread, really, but take it as my rallying cry!

Well done! Flowers

SardineQueen · 26/03/2018 20:21

Well done!

How did your MD take it?

Floodgates opened by the sound of things, so many women have so much stuff that they are smiling through gritted teeth over.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 26/03/2018 20:23

Gin good work

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 26/03/2018 20:23

That's brilliant - really brilliant!!! Well done!! 😃👍

I love when women can speak out about their experiences and when they are heard and listened to.

Good on you for letting it out.

TERFousBreakdown · 26/03/2018 20:28

Thanks everyone. Like I said, still feeling somewhat shaken ...

MD took it surprisingly well, considering the man I was speaking about was someone he wanted to bring on board.

He actually ended up offering to coach me in speaking with more confidence (when interrupting people a hell of a lot more senior than myself ...)

It is hard to start talking about it but then it is impossible to stop because it is so overwhelming.
I am glad you spoke up.

TERFousBreakdown · 26/03/2018 20:33

So am I!

And if they end up sanctioning me for it, it's not the company I want to be working for any more. Though I don't currently feel that's on the horizon ...

Star Hopefully now you've pointed it out, he might start noticing it occurring.

SophoclesTheFox · 26/03/2018 20:55

Well done you! That's really courageous. Hopefully, he will take it on board and think a bit about what you've said and what he could do for his part to make the environment better.
