www.mmafighting.com/2018/3/11/17106086/transgender-woman-anne-veriato-defeats-man-mma-fight-brazil

I posted about this fight on one of the sports threads a while back. Anne Veriato doesn't believe it is fair to fight women. Anne won their fight last night.

”It’s only fair to fight men,” Veriato said. “It never crossed my mind to fight a woman because I think I’m too good. If I beat men my entire career, I can still beat them despite the hormone process. I only know that I’m good after I beat men. That’s what makes me happy and hungrier to train. I don’t think it’s fair to fight women.”

Fallon Fox could learn something from Anne.

Rather gives the lie to the idea that undergoing mtf transition results in a very significant reduction in strength, doesn't it?

Gileswithachainsaw · 11/03/2018 15:43

Wonder if this will cause questions to be asked now?

Or are are still going to wait for life altering injuries or death before the penny drops...

Nice to see someone who knows who and what they are though

FencingFightingTorture35 · 11/03/2018 15:58

Amazing!

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 11/03/2018 16:04

Hurrah! Well done them

PencilledIn · 11/03/2018 16:09

Good for her. I did wonder what satisfaction there could be for mtf trans in beating women.

BingBongSong · 11/03/2018 16:13

I poked my head above the parapet for the first time online yesterday, mentioned Fallon Fox and the extent of the injuries they caused to Tamikka Brents (inc. 7 staples to her head). Got called a transphobe for my trouble.

The evidence so far is that it is individuals who hadn't the ghost of a chance of winning in a serious competition against men who find it particularly satisfying to compete against women

I am saving this to my forever saved list.

Good for Anne!

We should make a list of principled transwomen succeeding in men's sport. I'd happily add Jaiyah Saelua to the list - plays football for American Samoa.

Kneedeepinunicorns · 11/03/2018 16:26

Good on her!

OvaHere · 11/03/2018 16:27

It's definitely a good counter to the 'but hormones make us weak' argument.

It's shame there's not been much publicity pre or post fight because it's a positive situation for both women and trans people in sport and an actual deserved achievement.

Good for her. She 's honest about it. It just goes to show the unfair advantage that trans women have competing against women

Hormone treatment of this type may well make a person feel weaker but feeling weaker does not = woman.

This idea again is man as default and anything "less than" must be female. This is an incredibly misgynist idea.

For a man to say "I have been on treatment and I feel weaker so it's fine for me to compete against women" is nonsense. He doesn't know how women feel, so it's a guess. And of course you still have the different physiology.

MangoSplit · 11/03/2018 18:38

Well done Anne!

aRespectableBureaudeChange · 11/03/2018 18:41

Well said Anne.

Beansonapost · 11/03/2018 18:44

Brilliant!

Congratulations Anne and thank you!Flowers

Hairy, I've been wondering if we could do a thread that had names of people to follow to support (ex. Jennifer James, Dr. Nic etc) in politics, sports, etc. I wasn't sure if it was acceptable on MN for posters to list people. Do you know if this would be ok? And how/where to post it?

I'm not on Twitter yet, but would like to start and give support to those who are out there in RL. It would be nice to have a list of people to follow.

Squishysquirmy · 11/03/2018 19:45

Good for her.

Comments on this thread rather disprove the notion that we all hate transwomen don't they?

fruitlovingmonkey · 11/03/2018 19:51

Brilliant! Well done, Anne!

Triliteration · 11/03/2018 20:02

That’s lovely news. I came on here this morning and the list seemed all doom and gloom, but the House of Commons meeting and it’s related Sunday Times article are heartening.

This madness will pass.

TerfsUp · 11/03/2018 20:57

Huzzah for Anne and Jaiyah Saelua! Nice to see some sensible thinking about transwomen in sports.

MrsOvarall · 12/03/2018 10:20

Well done Anne!
