So for reasons that aren’t relevant I ended up looking at something to do with the Masons and obviously they are male only entry
Part of me is debating self identifying to see if I can join Grin

This is the sort of thing that needs to be happening, really. It's entirely one way right now, because men shout louder.

HomeTerf · 02/03/2018 08:13

I've been thinking about this as I raised the question of FtM trans people in my (second) letter to my MP. I was wondering if the law can easily be bypassed in this kind of organisation - that they technically could allow women TIW in, but would get around it in reality by just not nominating or seconding them, or however it works.

ReluctantCamper · 02/03/2018 08:16

nah, men's clubs like that all have things like blackballing, you have to be proposed and seconded by an existing member. they're already well set up to keep the 'wrong sort' out.

One of my ex boyfriends was a free mason (he told me two years into the relationship when I found a weird book of his! Apparently only did it for his grandfather.)

Anyways, he told me that there actually were woman that attended, and had been for a few years. Great idea though, just not the right organisation...

MoistCantaloupe · 02/03/2018 08:23

oh, and he wouldn't tell me much about what that did either. Apparently a bunch of black tie dinners and charity funding.

Fishfingersandwichnocheese · 02/03/2018 08:54

I think female masons are a separate thing though no ?

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 02/03/2018 09:02

Do it do it.

I'll help crowdfund your legal challenge like a shot

BelindasRedPlasticHandcuffs · 02/03/2018 09:08

There was a thread about masons not so long ago - there's a women's organisation which is similar but separate from the men's, and some lodges now allow women where they were previously men-only.

It would certainly be interesting to see how a self-ID man would get along trying for an old school male-only one though!

Fishfingersandwichnocheese · 02/03/2018 09:10

I really think this is the only way people will sit up and take notice. Not just this. But men only swim/spa session, classes, gyms, clubs, golf sessions - anything we need to stay self IDing our way in.

MoistCantaloupe · 02/03/2018 09:11

Yes, his was definitely one that had women mixed in with men, rather than a separate club.

Elletorro · 02/03/2018 09:13

Lots of conservative clubs are men only...not aware of any blackballing. That might be a nice direct line to the government

OhGodWhatTheHellNow · 02/03/2018 09:46

Well if you get in don't forget to demand a sanitary bin in the men's - I do wonder if enough men trying to sit on a toilet with a great plastic box jammed into their thigh might shift the debate...

IncidentalAnarchist · 02/03/2018 10:00

The one that I was looking at clearly stated men over 21 years of age
