I wonder how the woman they tried to rape feels about this. Will she also be invited?

LizzieSiddal · 27/02/2018 13:47

I’m all for criminal rehabilitation but those crimes were so vile, that person should not be allowed anywhere near any law consultations.

I wonder if they’ll be listening to child abusers too?

chinnyrekkon · 27/02/2018 14:00

Just been reading this, and came here to see if there was a thread. How is that Rose McGowen gets no-platformed for...well, being abused...but this murderer, attempted rapist, gets one of the best platforms out there!?

Confused

Just goes to show that men can do whatever they want, and be forgiven anything, i suppose.

Presumably the person in teh OP, a convicted sex offender (against women) would have been arguing that people like them should be in a women's prison and treated no differently from other female inmates.

"Cry for help" FFS. Very MALE cry for help isn't it, committing extreme sexual violence. Women tend to self harm.

And no fucks given about the victim at all, they are just a non-human bit-part aside in the grand story of the brave trans warrior.

What is it with TIMs and their history of sexual violence against women being deemed irrelevant, not serious, and probably something that we should feel sorry for them about, that they were driven to abuse..??? Like that one who gave the speech at one of the women's marches who has admitted to raping a Transman AKA a woman, with the specific intent of impregnanting her.

hipsterfun · 27/02/2018 14:36

Five days after being released early on licence in 2002, Jones brutally assaulted a female shop assistant after gagging her mouth with a lemon and trying to rape her. She was sentenced to life in prison. She said the attack was as a cry for help so that she could go back to prison and have the sex change operation she had needed all her life.

That’s not a cry for help.

SmurfOrTerf · 27/02/2018 14:40

Fucking hell

and some people still don't get it

HairyBallTheorem · 27/02/2018 14:51

OP, you are spot on. I keep thinking of one of Datun's favourite phrases: "They're pissing on our legs and telling us it's raining."

Anlaf · 27/02/2018 15:37

Presumably the person in teh OP, a convicted sex offender (against women) would have been arguing that people like them should be in a women's prison

I believe that this person successfully sought judicial review on the decision to hold them in a men's prison. They were moved to a women's prison largely because the GI clinic wouldn't give them SRS til they had lived as a woman in a women's prison.

from this summary
the claimant applied on several occasions to the defendant secretary of state for justice for transfer to a general female estate (not segregated). The secretary of state refused the transfer. The reasons given were, inter alia, the risk that the claimant posed to women given that she still possessed male genitalia, and the potential cost of segregation. The claimant sought judicial review of that refusal.

But this was found to be against their human rights, as despite wearing women's clothing and makeup in a segregated wing of a male prison:

the Gender Identity Clinic treating her will not approve her gender reassignment surgery until she has spent a period living "in role" as a woman within a female prison
from the full judgment

SnibbleAgain · 27/02/2018 15:45

In role??????

This whole thing is so wildly fucking offensive.

How can it be seen as progressive and caring to put this person in a woman's prison, not segregated, not nothing.

The absolute hierarchy of importance is so stark, and here we have a claim that NOT putting a sex offender in with a large number of potnetial victims who CANNOT get away, is the kind proper thing to do.

How have we got here? This is men's right pushback / woman hatred extraordinaire and you have the main political parties and loads of women supporting it? Why?

And you just KNOW that any women raped in prison who get pregnant will be blamed, somehow, and the attacker will be invisibilised.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 27/02/2018 15:48

What fucking fresh hell is this?

What the ACTUAL FUCK is going on?

LangCleg · 27/02/2018 15:52

They really think they now have the momentum for the total coup, AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth.

I really think the show down is coming and the wider population is about to see what exactly is going on.

LizzieSiddal · 27/02/2018 15:58

I really think the show down is coming and the wider population is about to see what exactly is going on.

I bloody well hope so. But I worry it will take something very big to happen for there to an an outcry. All this shit is creeping into every part of women’s lives, parts of the press are reporting but there is no outcry yet!

Badgerthebodger · 27/02/2018 16:11

What the FUCK

SERIOUSLY. What the fucking fuck?

I cannot believe this is happening. Invited to a consultation, sent to a female prison where presumably some poor woman has to share a cell with him. It’s disgusting. As a PP said, and some people still don’t get it. I am speechless at the reference to “in role” like it’s just some kind of game. Yes my biology is a joke hahaha heavy periods, miscarriage, discrimination lolz

Fekko · 27/02/2018 16:16

I’m sure there are better role models and spokespeople. If a rapist/murdered was brought in to discuss, say road maintenance or tax on household goods there would be vocal disapproval.

It seems like some people ‘can’t get arrested’ - to use the phrase, not literally.

Wanderingwomb · 27/02/2018 16:20

Right. Enough. I want to take action against this.

Strigiformes · 27/02/2018 16:30

I'm appalled, I can't believe that this is happening. Is this some strange parallel universe or has this always been going on and I've just noticed?

newtlover · 27/02/2018 16:37

what action though WW?

Elendon · 27/02/2018 16:38

Jimmy Savile

In broad daylight.

When will this stop?

Fekko · 27/02/2018 16:45

I don’t understand how a defence of ‘I was upset and confused’ can be used for such violent and horrible crimes.

I suppose this person is seen to have paid their debt to society’, and I hope to god they are truly sorry for their crimes and also work for victims of crime, but are they really a good spokesperson?

DaisyDrip · 27/02/2018 16:53

Fekko My guess is, the only thing they are sorry about, is getting caught. The victim won't ever cross their mind.

Elendon · 27/02/2018 16:56

So to conclude.

Male equals violence and also sexual violence.

Being a woman doesn't.

Feeling like a woman took this man out of violence, so therefore it's okay. Men really don't have to do anything now about sexual violence towards women so long as those violent criminals say that feeling like a woman is a cure all to sexual violence.

Circular, misogynist and yet again it's up to women to sort the sorry mess out.

stitchglitched · 27/02/2018 17:00

Referring to this violent predatory MAN as a woman and describing HIS sick sexual assault using female pronouns is the ultimate in gaslighting and a massive fuck you to his victim, as is being invited to the House of Lords. Is John Worboys up next I wonder, or is it only when you say that magic word 'trans' that all your crimes are forgotten and you are rewritten as a victim? It should be against the law for sex offenders to legally change sex and they shouldn't be within a mile of a women's prison.

Fekko · 27/02/2018 17:06

But in some cases hitting the headlines these days ‘feeling like a woman’ means more like Doris Day than Charlie Manson.

Notwellbitch · 27/02/2018 18:53

What. the. Actual . Fuck.

This is fucking horrendous. A murderer and sex offender being invited to speak.

This part of the article is so horrible. Like the fact that it is described as a "cry for help". Like they are saying it's ok to subject a female to such a violent attack because hey, it's a woman's position in society to be used as an outlet for male rage right?

"She was reported as having 'carried out the attack as a cry for help so that she could go back to prison and have the sex change operation she had needed all her life.'"
