The continuing war against women - Report on the Newcastle "grooming gang"

A report has been issued on the Newcastle "grooming gang". Rather than the 270 victims that were talked about in court the gang in all likelihood abused more than 700 girls. The abusers were arrogant and operated scot free for a long time despite some girls going to the police. Surprise, surprise they were not believed and the police decided to tackle the issue by instigating punishments for the girls "bad behaviour" rather than investigating and persuing their rapists. This included some of the girls being placed in "secure accommodation" thus basically criminalising then for having the courage to report having been raped, groomed and sexually abused.

I totally despair. 700 underage girls raped and sexually assaulted multiple times and passed around like garbage and that was the response by the police in this supposedly equal and enlightened age to silence them, decide they were liars and lock them up.

What if it had been a grooming gang scandal involving thousands of Asian girls being specifically targeted by white men? Would you say 'oh it's not cultural, it's just men again

Yes I would. We have just seen an analogy of this in the Oxfam and UN scandals. Men of colour target white women. White men target women of colour. Men of colour target women of colour. White men target white women. The key decider in who targets whom is sex, not skin colour or ethnicity. Men target whichever women they can most easily access and get away with abusing.

Reported rapes and sexual assaults up 20% in London this year to almost 20,000 (about 54 reported crimes a day!). Police have no idea what has led tot he increase and expect the number to rise. Some of the increase put down to improved confidence in reporting. Tip of the iceberg though as Women's Aid in London say the majority of women contacting them do not report the sexual assault against them.

The responsibility lies squarely with those who committed the crime and those who made it impossible to report on such crimes by making people fearful of being judgemental due to the all cultures are equal crap.

And don't give me the "most child abusers are white men" line. Of course they are as most people in the country are white and it's mostly a male thing. Doesn't stop me saying that most perpetrators of child sexual exploitation are Muslim males. 1500 girls in one town over a more than a decade. Hundreds of thousands in the country as a whole. That's industrial child abuse and trying to make it level by counting every criminal as equal is wilfully blind. Someone who abuses one, two or three kids is vile. But a member of a gang who abuse hundreds? How can you not see that as not even remotely equivalent? How can people attempt to criticise drawing attention to this as racist? It's just the facts that many seem to wish to ignore.

it's not about the culture per se, but about how they justify their behaviour to themselves.

Yes, it’s othering.

Remember- where’s the evidence though that white men are abusing Asian women, or Chinese men are abusing white women, or orthodox Jewish men are abusing black women? It has been a specific, Muslim men on white women pattern ever since the firs case eventually came out because the sheer weight of evidence tipped over everyone’s reluctance to talk about this phenomenon. Until then, it had been as if being seen to be on ,sesame in race relations speak was more important than speaking up for the 100s of victims. All white girls, groomed and abused by Muslim men.

That should be “on message” in race relations speak.

How many vicitms were there in childrens homes, in sports clubs, in schools? In churches, in hospitals, in care homes? How many children are being molested by family members? We have recently had two of the most prolific sex offenders in our country in living memory sent down - warboys and that peadophile - both white british men.

I agree that different cultures have different ideas and some have very toxic views about women and girls and that needs looking at, but not at the price of taking our eye off the wider picture. This is not solely a culture problem, or a religion problem, it is a man problem, that is the commonality across ALL the recent stories from this to saville to metoo to worboys and so on. Too many men are interested in sexually abusing women and girls, and sometimes men and boys.

Snibble- true, sex tourism is a big problem and some European men seem to think its ok to exploit women and children in poor countries. That is deplorable.
Hipster- surely the gangs of Muslim men who target vulnerable white girls are “othering “these girls and their whole culture. White girls= non virgins/ non protected by family = available= dirty. Othering works both ways.

I understand that according to some definitions it cannot be described as racism, but why the othering dimension isn’t deemed significant (by people who usually find othering to be significant) is beyond me.

I emailed the Newcastle MP Chi Onwurah 2 years before all this came out about the grooming in Newcastle i also posted on her page that she used to have on the net where you could leave messages.
It was very blatant in Newcastle at the West End and at Leazes park what was going on.
She never bothered to reply to either message then again its just White girls why would she want to rock the boat.
I see she was quick to write a letter to the Prime Minister calling for Harvey Weinstein to lose his CBE that will help her local constituency
