Always loved jo brand - I love that deadpan, world-weary delivery.

user764329056 · 04/02/2018 17:03

Cake and wine on offer at mine Jo, not a fruit or veg in sight

Hidingtonothing · 04/02/2018 17:07

I'd never seen that 'fairy hammocks' clip, so that's where DH got it from! I even write it on the shopping list when I need sanpro now Grin

QuentinSummers · 04/02/2018 17:27

atalune I always thought marmalade and bupcakes were the same person

TheQueenOfWands · 04/02/2018 17:30

I don't watch much television so haven't seen the later HIGNFYs (pronounced in my head as 'higgniffy').

What happened? Could someone tell me?

HumphreyCobblers · 04/02/2018 17:43

I had an actual surge of adrenaline when I read that she repeated what that CEO said to the audience. Brilliant.

I actually was so grateful when she said the stuff on HIGNFY as well.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 04/02/2018 19:39

Queen If you Google Jo Brand HIGNFY, it's the first thing that comes up. It was a proper landmark moment. Shame it needed to be said, but thank god they had someone on that day who was willing to say it.

Teabagtits · 04/02/2018 21:46

Do you ever wonder if the person you’re talking to or fighting with might be a sleb?!

No, me neither.

DancingLedge · 04/02/2018 21:52

Because of above, just rewatched Jo on HIGNIFY.

Not quite sure how to articulate this, so bear with, please.

Yeah, Jo was great. Took no shit, and clearly, definitely, calmly, pointed out that continuing low(ISH) level harassment wears women down, and affects our lives.

Re-watching, felt the same 'yeah, go you, thank you Jo' that I did on seeing the TV programme.

But also, a kind of sadness. Jo was just articulating the obvious reality of women's lives. And I felt grateful. But the fact that I felt grateful for someone telling it like it is, suddenly seems ,I don't know, like a sign that my normal is to not expect to be heard. Not expect to count.

Anyway, still great stuff, Jo.

Happy Branday WineCake

AnotherQuoll · 04/02/2018 22:00

I'm so happy right now!

Mrsramsayscat · 04/02/2018 22:38

I also love Jo Brand. Have for decades.

Am also slightly bemused that this is almost the only thread on feminist chat which isn't about a certain current political issue in one form or another.

I though her vacuum cleaner joke was very funny.

DancingLedge · 04/02/2018 23:33

Vacuum cleaner joke???

DeleteOrDecay · 05/02/2018 09:33

Hi Jo. You're awesome.

WellTidy · 05/02/2018 10:12

Jo's background in nursing really comes out to me. She is kind. She is hardened by the reality of nursing, but only because she spent so much time doing it and saw so much. But she is very human, empathic and she clearly really cares.

TournesolsetLavande · 06/02/2018 10:47

Can I just say though, only an hour a day?

Well that's what we all say officially hipster.

It's a bit like when the GP asks how many units you drink in a week.

therealposieparker · 06/02/2018 11:19

Gosh I love Jo Brand. I'm 43 and so was definitely one to watch when I was younger... and obvs is now. I absolutely loved her mental health sitcom.

Anyway Hi Jo.... I love to think your gender critical, can't imagine you not being.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 06/02/2018 11:22

Yeah. Feminism - the radical idea that women are people too!

hipsterfun · 06/02/2018 14:56

It's a bit like when the GP asks how many units you drink in a week.

I can honestly answer zero to that.

Units of MN, otoh... Blush

furcoatnaeknickers · 06/02/2018 21:53

Yay another huge jo brand fan here. Glad she is here sometimes and I hope on this board too
She has genuinely been an inspiring figure for me growing up watching her stand up shows. And she’s every bit as funny now as she was then
