Have applied for an audience ticket. Apparently Justine Greening is on the panel. Any ideas for phrasing a question on trans issues as topically as possible to maximise chance of it getting onto the show?

OP posts:
FlorenceLyons · 30/01/2018 10:34

I think the question should avoid the word 'transwoman', as most people don't really know what that means. I think it needs to focus on a tangible issue that everyone can understand, and most will feel strongly about. The Dean Marie case is a (topical) gift in that respect.

You're right that 'self-identify' is too jargony, though. I'd go for:

Should male sex offenders be allowed to transfer to a women's prison if they say they are female?

DodoPatrol · 30/01/2018 10:34

'Do all political parties agree that the best representatives of women are the male sort?'

iamawoman · 30/01/2018 11:05

Would the panel like to define sex gender and trans !!! Can a person change sex; as gender dysphoria is regarded as a mental health diagnosis currently - why are we looking at changing legislation to reduce access to healthcare

badabing36 · 30/01/2018 11:11

Should male sex offenders be allowed to transfer to a women's prison if they say they are female?

Perfect.

LangCleg · 30/01/2018 11:22

Should male sex offenders be allowed to transfer to a women's prison if they say they are female?

I like it! How about adding, just to be very clear:

Should male sex offenders be allowed to transfer to a women's prison if they say they are female? Even if they've had no surgery?

iamawoman · 30/01/2018 11:26

As we now have males as womens officers does this mean females can now be catholic priests as long as they say they self identify as male

GuardianLions · 30/01/2018 13:13

I wouldn't want to mix it up with religion- because it would make it look like the only concerns are religious conservative ones.

Freshlylaidterf · 30/01/2018 13:23

This

CoolCarrie · 30/01/2018 13:39

Definitely add the part about not having had surgery, that is very, very important. People watching need to know that. Good luck OP hope you get your, and our voices heard.

Jon66 · 30/01/2018 13:44

I was on in 2000 and asked the first question. Have a great time 😀

iamawoman · 30/01/2018 14:03

Is female sex still a protected characteristic ?

iamawoman · 30/01/2018 14:37

In what ways do you think that a born and socialised male can effectively represent females. Isnt there a failing in common sense to employ anyone other than a female in this role - why is a womans officer role being filled according to gender rather than sex

newtlover · 30/01/2018 18:05

what Florence said, and I hope, OP, you get a chance to aske the question. Any chance you could let us know if you do as I don't think I can face QT on the off chance.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 30/01/2018 23:07

OP Do you know for certain you are on? And do you have to have an acknowledgement that your question has been accepted?

dorade · 30/01/2018 23:50

Don't underestimate the audience's and the viewers' and even the panel's lack of knowledge about these issues. I'd wager many people don't know if a transwoman started out male or female.

I also think that a lot of people believe the born in the wrong body narrative and sympathy comes from that.

JC said on Marr that 'these people have been through a lot'.

Keep the question jargon free and perhaps get in necessary explanations at the beginning by starting the q with 'Given that...'

bambambini · 31/01/2018 00:31

Are political parties willing to risk alienating their women voters by supporting that any man can become women on self identy alone - thiscgiving them access to every female area.

EmpireVille · 31/01/2018 00:36

This question, no matter how you phrase it, won't get picked.

The BBC is far too right-on and hard left to open themselves up to transphobia.

EmpireVille · 31/01/2018 00:36

Accusations of transphobia that is.

CoolCarrie · 01/02/2018 21:25

How did it go Spinsterf?
