Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Sudden thought: is the trans stuff just an excuse to remove women’s rights?

Am I being slow? If the GRA goes through women lose the ability to express or prove inequity. Maybe that is just the point and the Activists don’t care at all about trans people.

That would explain all the trans women are women and the complete denial of debate. And the fact the activists don’t seem to be bothered by what actual changes-gendered-people think. Plus the whole primogeniture clause.

Has everyone worked what out already?

That is exactly what it is and what the result will be

The erasure of women and womens rights.

This is why we are so het up

UpstartCrow · 26/01/2018 19:20

Yes. This has been driven by the Right and they are no friend to women or gay people.
I'm sick of people saying ''its been brought in elsewhere without any problems'' and then ignoring the fact its now illegal to report on the problems in any meaningful way.

Anatidae · 26/01/2018 19:20

Yes. Sex as a protected characteristic will be down the swanny. Enjoy being fired during pregnancy.

I think this angle needs to be pushed so much more. The majority of people think everyone around them is entitled to lead a safe, law abiding existence where no one is persecuted for what they dress as/act as. Live and let live and all. Smash gender stereotypes and I’m right behind you cheering. Smash sex discrimination law and I will fight all the way.

But we cannot have that at the expense of women’s rights. And that will be the consequence of this bill.

There has to be a more sensible way around all this that protects people with gender dysphoria from abuse WITHOUT harming half the population.

Battleax · 26/01/2018 19:21

I can't see why else so many natal men would be getting so shouty.

ShutUpLegs · 26/01/2018 19:22

Yup. That's why there are a lot of women who are quite cross about it.

Thingiebob · 26/01/2018 19:25

Yes yes yes.

blackdoggotmytongue · 26/01/2018 19:31

Um. Yes. 😁
When you have actual main political parties removing women for refusing to accept a penis as female, and a group political party representatives starting witch hunts to remove any woman that doesn’t believe a penis can be female, I don’t think there is any other rational explanation.
Already at work I have been forced into removing choice about safe spaces from women, and placing it into the hands of ‘women’ with penises. I’m not even allowed to ask their sex.
No one seems to care.
I really don’t understand it.
It’s so painfully obvious that this is about reasserting male dominance. Even if the male calls himself a woman.

BarrackerBarmer · 26/01/2018 19:37

Yes.

Welcome to the peakiest peak of #PeakTrans.

Only kidding. It'll get worse.

By making it forbidden to distinguish between women and transwomen (same gender innit), employers get to hire 'women' who will definitely never get pregnant, and if all the women who look like they could possibly be of the breeding bleeding type end up unemployed and doing that unpaid caring stuff they like so much, who cares?

Because there's a new kind of woman in town and he ticks ALL the boxes! (not the kitchen/bedroom/childcare ones but we have the breedy bleedy underclass of woman for that type of thing)

KateSheppard · 26/01/2018 19:44

Yeah, of course it is. For some reason, a small but vocal number of left wing men just don't like women. Why the left? I don't know. They disappoint me. They disappoint all of us.

I wonder if many people know the role that Harry Selfridge played in the fight to gain women the vote? One of the most important contributions he made was in providing women access to customer toilet facilities at his store. This enabled (middle+ class) women to leave the house for extended periods during the day and to exert financial power outside the home. In time, those facilities also enabled women to attend suffrage protest rallies. Many women need brisk access to toilets after puberty and/or during and forever after a pregnancy and/or at menopause. In the absence of public toilets...that's a lot of missing suffrage protesters...

If we lose our own, dedicated, private toilet facilities, a significant cohort of women will again find it impossible to leave their homes at certain times of the month. Some women with urinary/faecal incontinence and/or prolapse etc issues simply may not be able to go out at all.

This would dramatically reduce the number of women able to protest at any attempt to wind back hard won rights. Like the vote.

Some consider the toilet issue to be a sideshow to the wider debate. On the contrary, public toilets are potentially the most important issue of all. Safe, private and hygienic public toilets are the very element which enables women to leave the domestic sphere and engage with the world on their own terms.

TLDR: Without women's dedicated public toilets, it would be just too easy to push women around.

The MRAs have spotted this as a way to erode women's rights and have deliberately inflamed it.

Of course it is. Grim, grim, grim especially for our daughters.

TheXXFiles · 26/01/2018 21:38

Great post, Kate . Very interesting reading. I didn't know that about Harry Selfridge.

Datun · 26/01/2018 21:47

Absolutely. All the rights. Every single one. Because without sex there's no sexism.

And just to push the point home, they are also going to enshrine, in law, a male sexual fetishist's right to practices his fetish in your bathroom.

And.

You will be on the wrong side of the law if you object.

So not only will your rights be eliminated. Male sexual rights are being created.

Superlandlady · 26/01/2018 22:33

Genuine trans people are being used by a small group of misogynists in an attack on long-established women’s rights. The woman-haters are infuriated at seeing women being given something that men cannot have: positions as women’s officers, access to female-only scholarships and inclusion on all-women shortlists.

These anti-woman activists know they could never get away with launching an overt attack on women. So they’ve done it covertly instead, by hiding behind transwomen. They are pushing transwomen into the public spotlight, a place most of them never chose to be.

They must be horrified to find the contents of their underwear being discussed publicly, and I feel great empathy for them.

I’ve known various transwomen and all they want is to ‘pass’ as their chosen gender. They don’t want their being trans either rammed down their throats or used as a political football.

My personal opinion on 'trans' issues is 'live and let live'.

We are all being set up and played in a fake argument.

Patodp · 26/01/2018 22:58

I've thought this for a while now.
It's absurd that the movement is gaining so much traction. But when you realise actually there are a whole load of women-hating straight blokes who work in IT championing it all on to give women (especially feminists, spawns of the she devil) a good kicking, it makes more sense.

KateAdiesEarrings · 26/01/2018 23:04

Yes, it is. And all the handmaidens are too busy helping the TAs/MRAs to notice that they are setting back women's rights by hundreds of years. The irony is some of them will say 'woman already have equality'. They are going to have such a rude awakening when they realise our legal protections have been swept away ...

flapsDentata · 26/01/2018 23:46

The irony that the third world has realised that single sex toilets protect women from violence, whilst in the west we are forced to become prey in the name of man feels, is sadly not lost on me.

AngryAttackKittens · 27/01/2018 08:07

That's why a lot of men have developed a sudden interest in "supporting" trans women, for sure. Well, that and the "shemale" porn so many of them are apparently wanking to.

(Proof that "TERFs" are not the problem here - I feel gross even typing out that word, men throw it around with gleeful abandon.)

AreYouOrHaveYouEverBeenATERF · 27/01/2018 08:26

Yes - it's frightening isn't it.

The brocialist left wing shouty men seem to be particularly invested in this - some because they just don't see it, and don't like to be called a bigot (looking at you, Ralf Little) and some because they actually do hate women, and think they should never have left the kitchen.

KateSheppard - thank you, that's very interesting. I'm going to do some more research on that - since the toilet argument seems to be a very large part of the trans movement. Disappointingly, with a fair few women simpering "I don't mind unisex toilets."

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 27/01/2018 09:32

I do think more focus needs to be on the danger that women are in with unisex toilets outside the western world and in asylum camps etc.

I'm going to find some stats for this

Check out the Scottish consultation. One of the questions relates to whether one partner transitioning should be citable as grounds for divorce.
