I saw this today in a post on Facebook. It’s not a typo as it was used a few times. Is there a reason it’s being spelled like this? I’m relatively new to being a vocal feminist so still learning about terminologies... but this didn’t sit right with me. Happy to learn if it’s ‘the new way’ and there’s a good point to it.

latina women have changed the last letter of latina because its sex based, so latina is 'woman with cultural ties to latin america', latino is the male version, but latinx is non specific so desexes the actual language and is therefore more inclusive.

Um..non sexually specific Latina/o people have always been referred to as Latin. The X is completely superfluous.
As for womxn..does it even warrant angst? It's not like it's going to catch on is it? A lot of this nonsense seems to exist merely on the Internet, and people really need to get out more, get some fresh air.

EamonnWright · 20/01/2018 01:35

The whole ideology is run on social media. It needs to change because it 24/4. It's inane and very very boring.

The gay community used to be cutting edge and cool, I suppose it's mainstream now and we are left with this rubbish.

MissMoneyPlant · 20/01/2018 01:56

More intersectional (bonus points then there folx!) than womyn because it includes trans-women and women of colour

Does "womyn" exclude women of colour?
Damn right it excludes men though... Hmm

ohamIreally · 20/01/2018 08:08

Did anyone notice voice's ? Jesus wept. At least it further undermines any assertion they are making as to the correct use of language.

Datun · 20/01/2018 08:27

Interesting that the explanation about including men came from a periodical called The Charlatan.

nauticant · 20/01/2018 08:43

The wax things are going thex'll be insisting that the letter x be replaced with the letter x in all words. It's not there xet but one dax we might be getting this.

It reallx is Newspeak from Nineteen Eightx Four.

AngryAttackKittens · 20/01/2018 08:53

Still trying to figure out how to pronounce it. Wim-zin? Insert an insect like clicking sound for the X?

Thehairthebod · 20/01/2018 09:08

Lol Nauticant

What's wrong with plain old 'women'?

Is 'mxn' a thing? To include trans men?

OhMyGoddd · 20/01/2018 10:07

How about we allow men to use "Transwomen are woMEN" as long as they keep the capitalisation?

IrkThePurist · 20/01/2018 10:10

'Transwomxn are womxn' is fine with me. Do we have to object to 'womxn' to get them to want to use it?

Ekphrasis · 20/01/2018 10:59

I don't pay ANY attention ti that description as the APOSTROPHES are all WRONG.

How can you invent a new term or word when you've got no handle on the English language in the first place?

Should say: womens' voices

Ekphrasis · 20/01/2018 11:00

And of women didn't come from men, how the hell does that include trans women?

Ekphrasis · 20/01/2018 11:01

*to Blush

Ekphrasis · 20/01/2018 11:01

*if BlushBlush

Ekphrasis · 20/01/2018 11:03

Sorry I correct my self. Women's voices.

BlushBlushBlushBlushBlush

It's been a hard night and I'm tired as I am a Woman with a child who has been ill all night.

SophoclesTheFox · 20/01/2018 12:55

nauticant Grin

MissMoneyPlant · 20/01/2018 13:17

Angry Still trying to figure out how to pronounce it.

I think that's quite revealing, actually.

Presumably, you don't pronounce it.

You just write it all over social media.

I wonder if the trans movement (as we know it) would exist without the internet, social media in particular. I'm not talking about the communication/connection aspect, but the way it's a virtual environment... linked to the real material world but not the same thing. But real-world consequences are missing, so the debate's all wrong.

(Now I need an eloquent poster to form my ramblings into a coherant point!)

LefkosiaTigers · 20/01/2018 13:25

Womxn.

For people who have an erroneous idea of the etymology of 'woman', and know very little about the world in general English grammar and punctuation.

MissMoneyPlant · 20/01/2018 13:26

Ekphrasis It's been a hard night and I'm tired as I am a Woman with a child who has been ill all night.

You're womanning all wrong. You should be in a bubble bath with a glass of champagne, before spending three hours doing your makeup and tottering out in stilettos for the night. Typical cisnormative priorities you have there, tsk.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 20/01/2018 13:29

Oh look it's just another attempt by white male people to appropriate the experience of women of colour through gaslightery and weasel words.

They're welcome to be womxn as far as I'm concerned, I'm sticking with woman.

Ekphrasis · 20/01/2018 13:30

Of course, you're so right, silly me. I'll ignore my pregnancy induced spd and get the louboutins on.

Mumsnut · 20/01/2018 13:31

I like womb-en

Definitely excludes TIM. Can't colonise that, no sirree.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 20/01/2018 13:32

MissMoneyPlant I don't know if this speaks to your point but I do think the internet allows people to ignore the sexed biological realities that they claim don't exist in a way which would be much much harder irl.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 20/01/2018 13:33

Womxn I really don't know why, but this sounds like something you'd worm a cat with.

I prefer womyn.

HairyBallTheorem · 20/01/2018 13:47

"That was the stupidest thing I've read today. That's quite an achievement considering I also read that people were eating dishwasher tabs."

Conjugal I think I may just have fallen a little bit in love with you!
