Older women should step aside says Laura Hudson

Laura Hudson says;

''Take comfort in knowing this not a new development: feminism has evolved over the years from concerns about suffrage, to concerns about reproductive rights, to concerns about including ALL women in its mandate''

''I have great respect for the contributions that many older women made to the feminist movement, at times when it was harder than I have ever experienced. It is also time for them to listen, to learn, to step aside''

Laura hasn't actually set an age limit for stepping aside (Or the 'Logans Run' mandate as some Twitter users are calling it)
Laura seems blissfully unaware of The Equality Act, its become irrelevant now all the lesser battles have been won. Ageism doesn't concern her at all.
She's said we can rejoin feminism when we catch up.

People have not been taking this lying down.

''And young feminists have almost successfully taken women's rights back to the age of Industrialization. They're authoritarian, anti-freespeech and ban pinks cat hats because they are apparently symbols of white supremacy.''

She's pushing 40, while not being particularly old, it's not young either.

HairyBallTheorem · 18/01/2018 23:12

Who is Laura Hudson, and why should I care? (I mean, as far as I can see from a quick google, she's hardly an intellectual heavyweight of the stature of Germaine Greer, or someone with the political clout and effectiveness of Barbara Castle...)

Weezol · 18/01/2018 23:18

Laura Hudson only has the privilege to say this because of all the women who came before her.

Her entitled attitude can kiss my 43 year old arse.

Ketzele · 18/01/2018 23:21

Ha ha ha ha. No.

OlennasWimple · 18/01/2018 23:23

Oh, she's about the same age as me. Does that mean that I am still young?

Megs4x3 · 18/01/2018 23:27

She has a right to an opinion but she doesn't have a right to be taken seriously or even a right to be listened to.

EamonnWright · 18/01/2018 23:29

Libfems are all for porn, prostitution and penis in women's private places. 3 major things I always thought were top of the list of things feminists are against Confused

Vicxy · 18/01/2018 23:31

What an utter twat.

From reading the thread a bit more, it seems her issue is with radical feminism (as opposed to libfem), rather than the age of the feminists involved. She seems a little too dim to realise that sometimes younger people are radical feminists also. I am 30, so younger than her and I have discovered through this forum that I am a radical feminist. Should I also step aside I wonder..

IrkThePurist · 18/01/2018 23:34

Vicxy She would say yes based on your politics, but Laura also says;

''Because age tends to correlate with not being on board with progress, and older woman are specifically the ones who have been most vocal about standing in the way right now. Many, but not all''

Hmm I have been engaging with her tweets but have had no response. I did suggest that she think about being 65 one day. The one thing we know for sure is that we will get old. We’d better hope so, as the alternative is worse.

irretating · 18/01/2018 23:39

Older women give no shits, they're magnificent.

LardyMardy · 18/01/2018 23:40

I’m almost 60. Does that mean I’m magnificent? Grin

IrkThePurist · 18/01/2018 23:42

Yes, and we bow to your superior knowledge Grin

Grin of course

Not on board with progress indeed Hmm

Guessing from this its down to one issue then. And I do not need to even state which one issue this is, I am sure.

Arf! Don't think so, love. Why does being a trans-inclusive feminist tend to correlate with being blindly, insufferably ageist, hmm?

Scratch the surface of anyone who fancies themselves super progressive and edgy for being rah-rah for trans issues, and you always find someone who secretly thinks old people are ignorant dinosaurs who should be led out into the snow for a lie-down.

It's astonishing, but it kind of makes sense in my head because they make it clear by their support of the horrific sexism of much transactivism that they themselves are mired in some very traditional ways of thinking about the world - as male is better, so young is better.

VivaLeBeaver · 19/01/2018 07:15

So basically anyone who doesn't share her take on feminism is an old, irrelevant bat who should shut the fuck up?

Don't think so.

UrsulaPandress · 19/01/2018 07:37

Is this about the trans then?

LardyMardy · 19/01/2018 07:46

I thought her rant was about the “Just day No” response to the Ansari story?

Either way she’s patronising and ageist.

Deadlylampshade · 19/01/2018 07:54

No no no. Older women need to speak more!!

What kind of feminist tells older women to shut up? Jesus wept talk about doing the leg work of the patriarchy.

Older women are more fun anyway they say fuck more.

QuentinSummers · 19/01/2018 08:11

She is an idiot. Now claiming all the older women who have commented are rich, white and TERFs.
Nice attitude for a feminist.
I despair. How have we got to a situation where people call themselves feminist but do things that are the antithesis of feminism?

CanIBuffalo · 19/01/2018 08:15

I'm torn between 'aww bless' and 'what a loon'.
