What can we do to support her today? A mass trip over to Twitter?

OP posts:
Vicxy · 17/01/2018 22:21

Ah I see they are trying emotional blackmail also. Not surprising

RedToothBrush · 17/01/2018 22:22

The thing is she could be on both sides easily.

Proposals could harm both women and parts of the trans community if not thought through. Its not just women who could lose protection.

The idea that its them or us is authoritarian nonsense. The transcommunity are not a monolithic community where they all have the same beliefs or agenda.

This is the fucking point. This is a transcult agenda. And transcult do not respresent the whole community, they are just the gobby aggressive ones.

Which only serves to heighten concerns. Which again is the fucking point.

If this is where she's at, then why would she open her mouth? Arguably wiser to argue the case behind closed doors with other MPs for now.

Vicxy · 17/01/2018 22:23

Ah, you must agree with me, or be sacked too

twitter.com/GabbiStanley93/status/953212906858000384

Wow, the people commenting on this are pretty aggressive

GretchenFranklin · 17/01/2018 22:39

Is it me or are they all going a bit nuts on there? She is sensible not to engage.

Gacapa · 17/01/2018 22:57

I can't bear it. This "transwomen are women" dogmatic mantra is deeply creepy, disturbing and self-evidently batshit.

It makes me feel nauseous and frightened. It is using smug conditioning with aggression to bully people into submission, erasure and foist fake bigotry upon an oppressed class.

I feel like I'm going to combust with rage at its sheer fucking lunacy and it's like being trapped in a nightmare.

That cocky repetition...I can't describe in strong enough terms how it makes me want to howl at world that feels like it is shifting from its axis.

NotTerfNorCis · 17/01/2018 23:01

Something going on here:

twitter.com/jessphillips/status/953741232647344138

'When people take the time to seek out a young woman activist to insult her for even speaking to me, tell me again that women's voices aren't being silenced by this shit! Isolate, exhaust, threaten, degrade - abusers handbook.'

Not sure if this is about trans ideology though or more general stuff?

NoSwsForYou · 17/01/2018 23:02

I’ve just finished reading her book and she is my new hero. There’s a section in there where she talks about internet trolling and how she receives rape threats/threats against her children and she quoted a few and they were vile. She also said when she knows she’s about to get involved in something that will inevitably end in her being trolled, she likes her followers to love bomb her with funny jokes or kitten memes. Obviously all he above is paraphrases but could we try that?

Vicxy · 18/01/2018 12:58

NotTerfNorCis

I think this might be about the same topic, because the activist woman has a female sign next to her name.

Serial123 · 18/01/2018 13:12

I was just coming on to ask if anyone had read her book. I will definitely get it now NoSws.

Thehairthebod · 18/01/2018 13:17

NotTerf I doubt it's to do with TRAs - the Isobel woman that Jess quoted there is a fan of Lily Madigan apparently.

BlindYeo · 18/01/2018 15:17

I haven't read her book. Does it mention the trans issue? It is called one woman's truth about speaking the truth. Does she claim she always speaks up truthfully on issues? If so, then I can only assume not coming out and saying either 'transwomen are women' or 'transwomen are not women' is because she doesn't know which she believes, which means she is not Spartacus at this point in time.

Or she knows exactly what she thinks but is staying neutral out of political or personal self-preservation. This would be quite understandable but not the come-what-may bold truth-telling that we could do with right now from some MPs.

What is the closest thing she has said to a position on this?

NoSwsForYou · 18/01/2018 15:18

Serial id never heard of Jess Phillips until I picked the book up in the list ready at the beginning of January. I sat in a cafe with a coffee and the book every Wednesday morning for the last three weeks (SAHM, DS goes to nursery a morning a week and I treat myself to 45 minutes of silence without staring at housework) and I found myself wanting to cheer out loud. She’s my new hero

NoSwsForYou · 18/01/2018 15:23

Blind there was no mention of transgender issues in the book. Bearing in mind I only know of her because if the book, I’d say my impression of her is that she speaks up despite knowing she’ll get abuse if it’s an issue she feels strongly about, I think that’s even something she’s written. She does talk about the importance and necessity of AWS though.

JessicaEccles · 18/01/2018 15:24

This would be quite understandable but not the come-what-may bold truth-telling that we could do with right now from some MPs.

After the murder of Jo Cox, and the amount of abuse female MPs get- I can totally understand whey she is being reticent. Plus there are several brocialists in the party who would love to see her kicked out.

WitchesHatRim · 18/01/2018 15:25

General stuff.

PilarTernera · 18/01/2018 15:33

If that is true, then the conclusion I draw is that she does not feel strongly about the trans issue. Considering the amount of shit she gets for speaking up, the issue has to be worth it. The trans issue is not worth it (or not yet worth it) from her point of view.

BertrandRussell · 19/01/2018 15:25

Trans issues were not anything like so prominent when she wrote her book- I don't think she can be criticised for not writing about the subject!

OP posts:
OlennasWimple · 20/01/2018 00:20

She's a bit in the "transwomen I have met are nice people, why can't we all get along" camp, isn't she?

Glitterypinksoap · 20/01/2018 09:21

All the trans women and trans men I've met have been nice people too except one, who mostly don't want or agree with the lunacy and are genuinely vulnerable, there's a lot of them about and they're as at risk from the TRA political loons as women are. Not about trans people jess. Its about political trans ideology and aggressive activists who are the ones making policy, advising schools, limiting language, threatening and hating lesbians, usurping women's political representation, closing women's groups, and thumping women for standing too near ideas they don't agree with. Important not to confuse the two. or to let the nuts use the genuine group as a human shield.

Exactly how I see it.

Vicxy · 20/01/2018 16:39

LOL, from that stonewall report on jess' status..

One in five non-binary people (20 per cent) have experienced discrimination while looking for a new home.

ALL PEOPLE ARE NON BINARY FFS

I bet the discrimination suffered was that someone else was given the property. I am finding it hard to believe that 20% of non-binary people suffer discrimination for not being 10-0% masculine or 1090% feminine like.

More than a third of trans students (36 per cent) in higher education have experienced negative comments or behaviour from staff in the last year.

Negative comments? How awful. 'Negative comments; is such an umbrella term that this is a useless stat. Was it transphobic comments? Was it telling them they failed an exam? Telling them to be quiet? What?

When accessing general healthcare services in the last year, two in five trans people (41 per cent) said healthcare staff lacked understanding of trans health needs.

Try being a woman...not sure if the staff lack understanding or just assume women are faking pain and such.

Vicxy · 20/01/2018 16:40

10-0% masculine or 1090% feminine = 100% masculine or 100% feminine Confused

Vicxy · 20/01/2018 16:45

51 per cent of respondents are disabled.

Wow. And this was not part of the 'key findings' for what reason?

I wonder how many of the 51% have autism..its been mentioned before, the link between trans and autism.

ArcheryAnnie · 20/01/2018 18:11

...so is Jess now claiming that all the abuse women get - die in a fire, kill all terfs, doxxing, rape threats, no-platforming, employers bullied to sack us, lesbians pressured for sex - don't happen? Because that's what that last tweet looks like.
