Have any MPs other than David Davis spoken out against the GRA reform?

Thought his blog was great ... not often I find myself cheering on a Conservative male MP!

Have any other MPS spoken out in any way?

Its David Davies.
Not David Davis (the Brexit twat)

And Mr Davies has voted in favour of so many heinous bills in the past that i suspect he's only against the GRA because he actually hates trans people. I have no confidence in this man at all

Collidascope · 07/01/2018 08:04

I think Caroline Flint tried, but basically got set upon.

IndominusRex · 07/01/2018 08:18

Carole Flint did. Jess Philips has made noises.

I have written to my MP three times during the last couple of months, once to his constituency office and twice via 'write to them' .
Just asking for the LP to pause and consider the possible long term implications of the current GRA proposals.
Silence.

Thanks ... I imagined David Davies might have um, suspect, views on other things... so no one we can admire who speaks out... Very sad about Carolline Flint, I usually admire her...

I wrote to my MP just before Christmas with concerns regarding the GRA proposals. He replied fairly quickly with hand written reassurance that he would keep fighting on our behalf. He had received 'many' concerns from his constituents and was going to forward all of our letters to Justine Greening. I don't want to out him, but he's also a conservative MP.

I saw Ian Duncan Smith making some disapproving noises about men sharing women's toilets. He thought it was not dignified and shouldn't happen ......

lessworriedaboutthecat · 07/01/2018 23:26

I cant understand why the Conservatives are even entertaining this. If the announced that there would be no changes to The Gender Recognition Act would they lose a single vote no would they gain some votes probably.

Bourdic · 07/01/2018 23:32

I despair at the common reaction that it’s all about shared use of toilets

ferntwist · 08/01/2018 10:31

The Labour MP Liz McInnes said women’s voices had to be heard.
David Davies invited a number of trans people to his Parliamentary meeting including Miranda Yardley, so no way he hates trans people.

I wonder if this is some kind of way of seeking absolution for Clause 28.

LangCleg · 08/01/2018 11:39

I said this on another thread but I honestly think it's about the youth vote (youth being under 25s). That's the demographic most heavily supporting all this.

Labour currently have it wrapped up and won't take any position that might compromise it. Plus, the anti-Corbyn MPs have to find some area of agreement or be threatened with deselections.

The Tories are under serious pressure with the youth vote and the GRA is, in their eyes, a good way to win some approval without having to make an offer to this demographic on the economics.

It's all triangulation and careerism. I don't think any of them give a shit about the actual effects of actual legislation, I really don't.

vesuvia · 08/01/2018 11:40

Xenophile, if it is an attempt to seek absolution for Clause 28, it seems very misguided to me that, in order to release themselves from guilt about throwing lesbians under the bus years ago, they propose to throw lesbians under the bus again.

LangCleg · 08/01/2018 11:44

To add - think of Stella Creasy, out there virtue-signalling for trans for all she's worth. A year ago she was out there having a go at Momentum for all she was worth. But fortunes have changed for Corbyn and Momentum and now she's got to find a way back in. Hello support for trans people, all beloved by pro-Momentum voices!

ferntwist · 08/01/2018 21:43

Stella Creasy is such a disappointment over this. I’m aghast at her support for Paris Lees, who is a disgusting misogynist.
