I can't seem to find the online version, but the print Daily Telegraph today has an article that Lancashire Care NHS Foundation will remove a question asking children if they feel comfortable in their gender from primary school questionnaires following criticism from parents and MPs.
Lancashire County Council said more consultation is needed before deciding whether to include questions about gender and other sensitive health issues in the assessments. Tim Loughton Conservative MP and former children's minister said the question was deeply worrying.
The paper's editorial says some common sense appears to have broken out in the politically correct world of the public sector.
I am paraphrasing but it says that it is worrying that some are trying to stifle free expression on such a sensitive and complex issue. Feminists such as Germaine Greer and Jenni Murray with a long history of standing up for the rights of women have found themselves pilloried for saying trans gender males cannot really be described as women. It says there is intolerance at the heart of the trans gender movement as narrow minded as the outdated attitudes it seeks to challenge.
Also, the Matt cartoon on the front page has a snowman and a child wondering to his father whether the snowman is happy with his gender.

Dare we hope that we are at risk of an outbreak of common sense? I wonder....
