NHS Trust takes gender question out of trans survey

I can't seem to find the online version, but the print Daily Telegraph today has an article that Lancashire Care NHS Foundation will remove a question asking children if they feel comfortable in their gender from primary school questionnaires following criticism from parents and MPs.

Lancashire County Council said more consultation is needed before deciding whether to include questions about gender and other sensitive health issues in the assessments. Tim Loughton Conservative MP and former children's minister said the question was deeply worrying.

The paper's editorial says some common sense appears to have broken out in the politically correct world of the public sector.

I am paraphrasing but it says that it is worrying that some are trying to stifle free expression on such a sensitive and complex issue. Feminists such as Germaine Greer and Jenni Murray with a long history of standing up for the rights of women have found themselves pilloried for saying trans gender males cannot really be described as women. It says there is intolerance at the heart of the trans gender movement as narrow minded as the outdated attitudes it seeks to challenge.

Also, the Matt cartoon on the front page has a snowman and a child wondering to his father whether the snowman is happy with his gender.

----

Dare we hope that we are at risk of an outbreak of common sense? I wonder....

I hope so...!

MillicentFawcett · 12/12/2017 10:08

Thank goodness for that!

LangCleg · 12/12/2017 12:01

Good. Bloody question was tantamount to grooming GNC kids into a trans pathway.

Thanks for the link Datun.

You’re welcome. I was just about to post the link myself!

Common sense prevails.

RestingGrinchFace · 12/12/2017 12:17

Good. They may as well be asking children to identify their sexual orientation. The idea that a primary school child can have a sufficiently developed sense of gender to identify or transition is madness!

The rest is under a paywall. You can see the comments though.

Does anyone know anything about Common Purpose - seems to be quoted a lot in DT comments..................

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 12/12/2017 13:56

Good. That was a fucking ridiculous question. If nothing else how many adults could answer that question?...

HemlockSpartacus · 12/12/2017 14:12

Good.

Weezol · 12/12/2017 17:26

Really pleased to see this.

Thermostatpolice · 12/12/2017 17:58

Good. Even better that it's the Telegraph. Lots of powerful people take the Telegraph seriously in a way that they might not listen to gender critical sources.

BlindYeo · 12/12/2017 18:30

Excellent.

I love the Matt cartoons.
