I've been meaning to write a post for ages asking if any of you know the Horton Women's Centre and asking you to support it if you ever get chance.
hortonwhc.org.uk/

It's a brilliant place offering affordable holidays to women and children, it's often used by vulnerable women who would never get a break otherwise but is also just a lovely place to go with a group of friends or alone. They've been getting stick recently for refusing to change their policy on only admitting biological women, and I fear for its future if/when the changes to the GRA go ahead. But in the meantime, if anyone's in the mood for some great feminist company in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales I recommend it highly.

We do not tolerate BS in our neck of the woods, we know that women are women and men and men

This is so heartening. We live in London, it's our biggest dream to sell up and move to the Yorkshire Dales. After tirelessly trying with our MP over self-ID problems and just being told to be more inclusive, seeing protests lead by TRAs in the street.... I've said
"There'd be none of this crap in Yorkshire"

(Lots of conversations start with "when we move to Yorkshire" lol)

I'd love to visit this retreat with a friend. I'd bung £100 their way as a donation !

On a point of clarification, the quote in the above post from Patodp is not from the Holiday Centre!

Lippysoutherner · 08/03/2018 14:26

but we'll happily take donations...

moofolk · 08/03/2018 18:16

It is indeed completely brilliant.

Sorry only just realised this thread had come back to life.
An annoyingly loud lib-fem woman I know was making a lot of noise about it on Facebook a few months ago, and trying to rally people to join some campaign to force a policy change. It didn't look like it was gaining much traction - not in circles I'm part of anyway - so hopefully it hasn't caused any real-life problems.

The Woman's Centre is under attack on Facebook for sharing the petition, please support them

DNAnotGRA · 14/03/2018 15:16

PS Please let us enjoy our sanity in the Dales a bit longer before a mass exodus lands upon us!

rowdywoman1 · 14/03/2018 15:58

Dreadful comments but the centre are being so calm, consistent and respectful in response.

pisacake · 14/03/2018 16:30

i never realised there were so many transmaidens. Citing Iran as a model for anything? Saying trans-identified males don't have male privilege. What crack are they actually smoking??! The likes of Caitlyn Jenner had no male privilege? Somebody has replaced their brains with cotton wool.

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 15/03/2018 15:50

Is this the same centre?

www.facebook.com/The-Womens-Holiday-Centre-156865584461041/

A few people kicking off saying 'cis' women oppress transwomen and such and repeating 'transwomen are women' and the usual 'you will be doing genital checks?!' nonsense (centre replied that asking this was creepy Grin ) but many of the comments support keeping single sex spaces.

GraceMarks · 15/03/2018 15:55

It's heartening that, of the people shrieking transphobia, there only seem to be two or three who are bothering to keep arguing. They're very much outnumbered as far as I can see. The most worrying is the person who has said that women's comfort should come second to that of transwomen, and that anyone who disagrees is a misogynist... how exactly is that supposed to work?

PositivelyPERF · 15/03/2018 17:00

My god those TIMs and their handmaidens really are talking a load of shit aren’t they, and they seem determined to bully their way into female only spaces. I’m so impressed with the responses from the centre.

PositivelyPERF · 15/03/2018 17:02

The most worrying is the person who has said that women's comfort should come second to that of transwomen At least they’re saying out loud what the TRAs are really demanding.

GraceMarks · 15/03/2018 18:44

It's just so important that this place doesn't get bullied out of existence. It really is the only one of its kind in the UK, as far as I'm aware, and having been there myself I would be devastated if the GRA effectively destroyed it by obliging it to accept people with penises. Most of the accommodation is dorm-style and there is no way I'd go back there if I couldn't be guaranteed that there wouldn't be a male-bodied person who I didn't know in the next bed along. I'm sure most women would feel the same, even, if they were being completely honest with themselves, most of these handmaidens who say they don't want women to have the right to any boundaries.
