Any other MN-ers going to this event in Gloucester in December?
Hardcore Hate
I am so pleased to see a feminist event looking critically at porn and its links to violence against women and girls, and it has a great line up of speakers, including Sheila Jeffreys, Glosswitch, Heather Brunskell-Evans.
(And living in the provinces myself, it's also nice to see this sort of event happening outside London).

These things are always in the South, costs me a fortune to get to them.

There are so few of this type of event anywhere full-stop - with the exception of FiLiA.

And I can sort of see why: not a lot of money in it, aggro from other people, even from other feminists. It's amazing that anyone goes to the trouble of organising any feminist debate or activism, but I'm glad they do.

I wish I could go but I cant. I really wish event organisers would find some way to pay per view for those of us that cant travel.

Whilst it is an excellent aim what exactly is this intended to achieve? It is preaching to the converted.

How do they propose getting this into mainstream media and opinion?

Agreed: against a billion dollar porn industry a few feminists are certainly relatively powerless and underfunded.
But as well as sustaining us in sisterhood and giving us the will to keep arguing our corner, there is an active attempt to engage policy makers at a local level at least.
