Annoyed by the phrase ‘sex scandal’

Is it only me who thinks the media use of this phrase is inappropriate?

If someone in a position of power was going around hitting people who did not want to be hit then they would call it assault not a ‘boxing scandal’.

Its not just you, it adds insult to injury IMO.

Agree. To me a sex scandal is an affair involving two consenting adults who should not have been having sex with each other.

Widespread sexual harassment and abuse is criminal, not scandalous.

And language does matter. However, I am constantly amazed at the poor language choices made by particularly the BBC.

Agree op. I said similar on another thread recenlty. Sandal sounds like titilating gossip, abuse shouldn't be diminished this way. It feels like another layer of sexual harrassment ontop.

I have no problem with them calling it a scandal, because it is.
But yes, sexual harrassment scandal would be fine.
