"He can have my leftovers"

This phrase riddled with sexism has been bugging me since amir Khan used it while having a twitter splat with his wife.
He said this to the world about what the other the boxer is having i.e. His used up wife because he had her first.
My interpretation is this,
1- he saw his wife as his property. A thing he can use as he pleases and now that she has allegedly slept with someone else, AJ is having a used person.

2- this brings me to the narrative of women being virgins and having sex ruins your purity. For amir, him probably marry her and sleeping with her has made her second hand goods/property. A woman of lesser value. But it's ok for him to sleep around and including prostitutes (most likely a vulnerable woman).

3- sex being used as means measure and value women.

4- slut shaming shaming her while according to his wife at that very moment with another woman.

He thought it was ok to look at his wife, the mother of his child in that way. Mind boggles.

Yuck. I missed that. Totally agree with your analysis

quencher · 07/08/2017 23:11

Yes! And people totally laughed it off like it was ok thing to say. With jokes made about it.

It is a vile phrase and suggests that a woman loses value the more partners/sex she has.

I think it was probably more trying to get a cheap dig in if she has infact cheated on him. I've heard many women say it about men too, I don't think in this particular case it was used in a misogynistic way.

hasitcometothis33 · 08/08/2017 11:09

So she cheated on him and he reacted by saying a nasty thing about her.

Wow. What. A. Bastard.

quencher · 08/08/2017 11:23

*So she cheated on him and he reacted by saying a nasty thing about her.

Wow. What. A. Bastard.* That's true but his wife has denied this claim. Instead she says it's him who is constantly cheating.

But he is known for cheating. He said this while with a prostitute in Dubai according to his wife.

A few days after this, he is seen in strip club and then later with another woman peoples would assume he slept with.

His wife gets cheaper but not him?

So a man who was paid to assault other people feels he can say what he likes because he is as "sporting hero". I just hope that those people who supported him wake up and realise the man is an arse.

MissBax · 08/08/2017 20:04

That's true but his wife has denied this claim. Instead she says it's him who is constantly cheating. - oh I'm not justifying it, but I still think regardless of who did what to whom, someone scorned will make nasty comments in the heat of the moment when they're feeling hurt. I still don't think this necessarily was said in a misogynistic way.

Amir Khan and estranged wife Faryal turn to Islamic sharia law expert in desperate last-ditch bid to save their marriage

KERALA1 · 28/08/2017 21:55

Neither of them look particularly bright

highinthesky · 28/08/2017 21:59

The guy is a shit-for-brains boxer. Do you expect him to have an opinion worth respecting?

BakerBear · 28/08/2017 22:03

I hear women saying this alot about men too.

Its a defence mechanism. Abit like when a woman wants to hurt a man she will automatically say he has a small willy when he hasnt just to hurt him or a man will say she had a bucket fanny when she doesnt.
