I think things like this are important due to the very nature of them being casual and jokey. It's about ingrained attitudes.

OP, yes, it is everyday sexism- the constant drip drip drip of things too small to complain about that become a massive brimming bucket of crap before you know it.

Dp (man) would not think this was safe enough. I guess it's sexist, but I'm a bit meh about it. It's a stereotype, but you do read about of a lot of impractical 'fun' dads on mn so maybe it's more true than us 'fun' mums would like to believe.

Its the thinnest end of the smallest wedge i think I've ever seen. There's plenty of other far worse adverts to get up in arms about.

I agree it's trivial in the grand scheme of things, and if I saw it elsewhere or someone said something similar I'd let it slide.

BUT, for an organisation whose members are, let's face it, primarily mothers, to be spreading this shit that sends the message 'you'd be doing a much better job if you were a man' is just wrong.

I thought they'd remove it once the sexism was pointed out, but apparently since it's promoting men (at the expense of women), that makes it alright.

Is anyone getting "up in arms" about it? All I saw was a bit of chat. Well, on the "yep, it's a bit sexist" side anyway. Can't really speak for the "get a grip" side. They do seem to get cross very quickly......

Laughable comment. How does someone posting about something mean that's "all they have to worry about"?

It is trivial but it irks me. The supposed aim of raising awareness of the value of men in school communities isn't served by throwing around lazy stereotypes like this.

It's pretty clearly harmful especially coming from an organisation which represents parents and teachers. It's suggesting only dads (and therefore men) would book something they're portraying as fun and exciting, whilst mums (women) would pick a boring, run of the mill option. Men are daring, women are dull. Great message to send to parents and for them to feed into their children.

No-one is getting "up in arms" about it. Pointing out everyday sexism doesn't equate to declaring war on the PTA.

I would like to see this scale of sexism with the cut off point for where things get sexist enough to worry about! That would save me heaps of wasted brainpower.

It probably is along those lines; I think once women have the vote nothing could possibly be sexist enough to warrant comment, seeing as "don't you have better things to worry about" is churned out to silence comment on pretty much anything.

I can summon up some righteous rage for an eighth of a burka offence, if the wind's in the right direction. Like, say, a man talking over me in a meeting? That's an eighth of a burka. Goes up to a quarter of a burka if someone attributes one of my ideas to him.

Full burka offences: rape, honour killing, FGM, actual enforced burka wearing.

I would be cheesed off. I understand the continuum view that little things like this are part of the whole and that if you tackle the little things it all helps.

The other view is concentrate on the big stuff, the Ched Evans, the "she was asking for it" the " prostitution is just another job" nonsense" because going on about this sort of stuff makes you sound like , as someone on the ballet said, a loon. And sounding like a loon never helps.

There is another thread at the moment about a stupid , naff sign on a pub toilet. The stupid, naff sign merited a mention; it should not, as a poster on that thread suggested it did, lead anyone to think it damaged their sense of self worth or question their value in society.

IMHO that sort of OTT reaction to a stupid pub sign is pretty near the end of the loon scale. This complaint is not. It is an ignorant and poor show from a body which should know better.
