I've noticed a few stories recently where the dv element has been side-stepped: the man in Thailand who killed his daughter via live stream to hurt his wife and the man who murdered a number of people via live stream after ordering his victims to say his ex-girlfriend's name.

The reporting of this story on R4 was very strange; they described the attack with a hammer (!!) & ended in soppy voice, "the couple were described as devoted to each other." -yeah, apart from the whole hammer thing.

I heard this on the radio yesterday. Choosing a violent method should have ruled out the euthanasia defence. He violently attacked his wife in an attempt to murder her.

Thank goodness! I watched the news coverage of this wondering if I had gone through the looking glass! It was all about what he had said she said to him and he used a hammer ffs. I really hope safeguards are in place for her now, so he never has the opportunity to be alone with her again.

I would almost understand if he had given her a purposeful overdose or tried to smother hear with a pillow, but I can't even begin to imagine that as a loving act...trying to bludgeon your DW to death with force.

How would that have been the way to share the last moments of their marriage and happy memories of a life together?

Fucking hell, I am so bloody fed up of DV abusers being not only excused by the media but bloody honoured for being such upstanding loving blokes.
Do you think we'd have any luck complaining to press standards about the apparent veneration of severe DV? I feel like we need a campaign to stop this gross misrepresentation happening, similar to when they campaigned against the phrase child prostitutes and child pornography.

Yes, I could accept that the intent was benign if he had chosen a non violent method. I cannot understand how anyone would believe that someone could attack another person with a lump hammer as an act of compassion.

Such a violent way to try to end someone's life. I would understand more if he had given her a huge overdose or something but to attack her like that made my skin go cold.

Today in New Zealand a cop shot dead his ex wife and her new partner. Most of the comments on the news story are along the lines of "poor guy, he must have been in a dark place."
It's unbelievable.

I read this in the DM and even their comment section was (at the time) full of "yeah, but why not a pillow" and "why so violent" Even the average DM reader was thinking it was a bollocks defence.
