Lego dimensions, Supergirl and poor business decisions

Lego Dimensions is supposed to be a children's game, so it is already a shame that there is a relative paucity of female characters in the packs, however what is completely inexplicable is that the makers of Lego Dimensions have decided that Supergirl, one of the most awesome female characters, should only be available in the PS4 starter pack.

So people who have got a Wii-U, the family console, are unable to get one of the best female characters.

Why the bloody hell would they restrict access to a female character when there are already so few of them available?

Because despite what actual girls say, superheroes are only interesting to boys

And computer games, probably.

It's disappointing, I bought DD a lego set recently and it had a really diverse set of characters, including a businesswoman, a dad pushing a pram, some old people and a wheelchair user. I really thought they'd started making an effort.

But the effort only goes so far. Supergirl - tick. Actually allowing all young gamers access to the Supergirl figure - fail. If they were going to restrict access to a figure, why not one of the many male characters?

Maybe what toymakers need is affirmative action figure quotas.

What we really need is some good female villains rather than the cookie cutter 'strict school ma'am' or 'crazy hot chick' - My DS2 doesn't care about the sex of a character, he cares about the weapons/abilities, and gravitates towards powerful villains. His favourite colour is pink though, so this puts him in a bit of a bind! (bring on customisable hulk/ironman!)

I hate it when they restrict characters to consoles - but this is especially bad given the dearth of female characters in general.. and we're not getting a PS4, we already have a switch on pre-order and I refuse to have any more consoles in the house - we're out of HDMI ports for a start, and I'm not mucking about with HDMI switches!

My boys love the imaginext toys. The only female I've found is catwoman.i wish there were more female toys in these sets.

I don't want to rub salt in the wound but she's really good in the game too.
It annoys me she is supergirl but superboy wouldn't work for an adult male. This was mentioned in the Lego Batman film though.

just so you know, there is no more support for wii-u as the switch will be out soon, so i'm sure you will get it on that console

My DCs (DS and DDs) love all the games-to-life - we have Lego Dimensions, all the Skylanders games, and Disney Infinity (which rather annoyingly has been cancelled which I only found out after I'd bought the latest game and a load of figures. But that's another discussion...)
The DCs enjoy playing with the figures off the console as much as on. They treat them like any other figure toys - making up stories with them etc. They are always complaining about the lack of females! I do make a real effort to get more females but it's hard when there just aren't as many available or as you say they only come in certain packs.
The youngest DD really loves Supergirl, she will be annoyed she can't get it for our console because we still have a PS3 - I am holding off on the PS4 just yet as we have so many PS3 games they still really enjoy.

I must be getting through to DP, because a couple of Christmasses ago he got Disney Infinity 3 and made sure that he got both male and female characters for the Star Wars set (which the kids never really got on with.. in fact I just had to hunt ebay for a wii U Disney Inifinity Original DVD after the PS3 broke so they could go on playing Monsters/ToyStory/Cars because those are their favourites)
