The link doesn't work on my phone and Auntie Google isn't helping either. Does anyone have a better link?

Not cool. Confused

Using a teddy makes it seem the video is targeted at very young kids, maybe 2-6 Hmm. It really made me cringe because it is a type of wannabe brain wash.

I am all for trans people being able to be who they without fear or shame however most human beings are not trans. It is the exception. Most people don't give a hoot what gender they are they just get on with it. The video is misleading and confusing and definitely inappropriate a bit creepy actually.

Surferbabe · 06/12/2016 19:18

Also "it's a boy/girl" is NOT the first thing doctors say to a mother who has delivered a baby, what a cliché.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 06/12/2016 19:44

Thanks for the link, Amalfi. God, what a ghastly piece of propaganda. And the claim that doctors 'assign gender at birth" as if it's some special medical process instead of just noticing something everyone present is equipped to do quite unassisted. So pretentious too. And what about the billions of babies born without a doctor? Presumably they go through life genderless....

Any child of the age this video is aimed at is not going to be able to conceptualize gender, so it's pointless. However it might cause some children to perhaps see sex as something that might just spontaneously change which, when I was small, would have freaked me out considerably.

GenderCriticalDad · 06/12/2016 21:18

This sort of crap is such a boon to bullies. IF you don't fit in as a stereotype of sex you this lot have given all the bullies the perfect way to make your life hell.

Why do we have to shove kids into such restrictive boxes. Let them be what ever they are and help them be happy in the bodies they have.

PerspicaciaTick · 06/12/2016 21:26

Nursie: Out you popped and everyone’s shouting: “It’s a boy, it’s a boy!” And somebody said: “But it hasn’t got a winkle!” And I said: “God be praised, it’s a miracle. A boy without a winkle!” And then Sir Thomas More pointed out that a boy without a winkle is a girl. Everyone was really disappointed.

And thus, Sir Thomas More became the first documented man to assign gender at birth.

Perspicacia Grin

The attempted brainwashing is very worrying.

The phrase "Queer Kids Stuff" makes me very uncomfortable. Though in my day, it was an insult, I understand that to millennials, queer is a sexuality. Why are we telling kids young enough to be talked to using building blocks about sexualities?! Is that appropriate?

It makes me think of religion, where people talk about a "Christian child", or a "muslim child", when what we mean is "a child with Christian parents" - it makes no sense to talk about a "dialectical Marxist child" or "neo-libertarian child". None of those are labels that can be meaningfully applied to someone who has not yet developed the analytical and life skills to understand them. Nor does it make sense to me to talk about a "queer kid" - FFS, let the child be a child and then come to conversations about adult sexuality at an appropriate time!

You're not the only one

PS
My kids are totally Dialectical Marxists

IBelieveTheEarthIsFlat · 07/12/2016 10:01

WTAF?

"Doctors sometimes make mistakes when assigning gender at birth"

That sentence is illogical on many levels. Setting aside the obvious biological sex, how that actual fuck is 'gender' to be 'assigned' at birth then? How can the doctor NOT make a mistake? Are we to ask the baby? Fuck sake, I'm so sick of this bullshit. How about we continue to note the sex and let the child to decide if he or she wants to play with dolls or trucks and forget the nonsense that is gender, assigned or otherwise

And on Parents Magazine? We're fucking doomed

Honestly, I just can't believe this! It's triple Peak Trans with sprinkles. It's just ludicrous. And Dangerous.

Shame on you Parenting Magazine!

Aaaaaaaaaaargh

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 07/12/2016 12:26

I've now commented twice on the Parenting site. The first one has vanished, the second is awaiting moderation. Bet that one disappears too. So that's kinda cheerful, given that there are no positive comments. I wonder how many critical ones they've had to delete?

Also on a cheering note, the Queer Kids Stuff YouTube channel has blocked comments on its videos. This tells any passer by that the videos are receiving such relentless criticism they can't afford to enter into debate. And the channel has just over 2,000 subscribers, of which I bet the majority are creepy adults. So it's not what you could call a popular movement.

Notwhatiexpected · 07/12/2016 16:31

I have got to the point where I need to speak to my kids school about all this.

A brand new mum at the gate, who describes herself as a trans advisor for schools, had plonked herself on the PTA already, so they will be hearing this propaganda.

Can anyone recommend a great source for gender critical resources? stuff which challenges this belief system in a kind and rational way.

Delurking to recommend Rebecca Reilly-Cooper's blog and twitter - her writing was the first I read that really captured what I'd been feeling about gender critical stuff but didn't know how to put into words, it's very accessible plus I think she fits the description of "kind and rational" very well.

Notwhatiexpected · 07/12/2016 17:32

Kind and rational, because I am neither 😉

Notwhatiexpected · 07/12/2016 17:32

Thank you!

venusinscorpio · 09/12/2016 15:00

Also Stephanie-Davies Arai has written some good stuff.
