To be concerned that we are about to take a big step backward

Given the current political climate, I firmly believe that we are heading towards the Third World War in approximately 3-5 years time. I think it will kick off in Europe as tactically it's extremely difficult to attack the USA, and near impossible to invade it.

Woman's rights made great leaps during the last two wars however I feel that this time around there will be no great gains and that there will be the potential erosion of what has been achieved.

I believe that it is unlikely to go full scale nuclear, however there is the chance for limited nuclear exchange of tactical weapons. In this event I believe that in the aftermath European refugees will be fleeing to Africa and at this point feminism will cease to exist, swapped in favor of basic survival. I fear for the future.

There is no knowing what a madman like Trump might do, but if Trump teams up with Erdogan and Putin to invade Europe, I plan to die standing rather than live on my knees.

There will be no swapping feminism for slavery in order to survive for me.

I am not brave, but I am depressed. If I can hardly bear to live in this world, then I will definitely not be able to live in the new dystopia.

I do not believe that anyone is going to invade the UK in my lifetime.

Thanks for your input, my theory are based on my interpretation of the political landscape ahead of us and, I am not asking you to believe me. I am just stating what I believe.

I don't think that we will see widescale conflict, but I agree that the world is becoming less stable. I also think that we are seeing a rise in extremism of all sorts (religious, political, social), none of which is progressive as far as women's rights are concerned.

So if we are not fleeing from the UK, why would feminism cease to exist here?

Or New Zealand, Canada, Argentina, Cuba?

There was a FB thing a week or so ago - I think just before the USA election, about what would happen next, esp if Trump wins. Anybody else see this? Because I don't think i can find it again, or link it if I could. But from what I remember, in order:

Brexit - weaken EU, destabilisation, rise in racism, etc
Trump winning - cosy of Putin, rise in racism, sexism, further destabilision. Oh, and NATO out the fucking window.
Next up seems to be two further elections on the continent, where fascist parties are predicted to make some inroads, if not win outright. Further weakening of EU.

With neither EU strong enough nor America inclined enough to fight Russia, what's next predicted is some Baltic states will be "assisted" by the Russian government in much the same way the Ukraine had been recently.

Overall, dire predictions.

I think Putin will push his luck on boundaries of former Soviet states and Trump won't be that bothered. I don't think the skies will fall.

I agree with OP. Maybe not on war in Europe within 5 years, but I foresee more war-like situations existing in more of Europe than we're used to. I'm very worried about economic stability & social cohesion. I see women's rights & freedoms going to hell in a handcart, frankly, war or no war - we're under attack from multiple sources, and nobody seems bothered enough to push back hard.

Hope I'm wrong, obvs.

Trump's definitely not going to have the powers he thought he would - he was under the impression he could repeal laws and tell judges how to judge.

As he is learning this week, though, he has many other responsibilities powers that are very huge. Since he's surrounding himself with bumptious fools and seems determined to share all the classified information with his family members, there's unlimited scope for disaster.

Trump is certainly being forced to soften his stance. Which could be seen by his hard core fans as back tracking. This could casual him some issues.

Noone wants to give him any credit, he is already speaking softer of Obamacare, after a review, which has to be a good thing. He also has put together a transition team, which was an Obama initiative, despite diagreeing with the personell on the team, the fact he has the vision to impliment it at all has to be good news.

The big worry is the Paris agreement and his stance on climate change, if he could just soften that we could all take a breath of air!

He needs to earn the credit of decent people, because he's had months of living it up on the racist, sexist, disablist card. He wants any more credit, he's going to need to work off that debt.
