Fathers' takeup of SPL might be as high as 30%

Interesting article - points out that the widely reported 1% figure is 1% of all men (not ones who've become dads since 2015) in some companies.

I've seen that figure quoted no end of times, but never with that rather crucial context.

I read this a while back. Ridiculous, biased reporting.

More or Less on Radio 4 named and shamed the 1% figure as one of the most misleading statistics ever to be reported in the media, which is of course saying something. Podcast here, if you're interested.

Out of its 86 respondents that had a child in the past year, 31% said they are using or had used their right to shared parental leave; 48% did not use their right; and 21% said they were not eligible.

By my calculations that's 40% takeup by those eligible (of a very small sample). I hope more research is done, and I hope the figures are similar.

shiny I heard that episode of MoL too, definitely worth a listen because they are totally appalled by the misleading reporting. Will be ingesting to see more thorough research.

Interesting not ingesting

I wonder how many companies will have heard the 1% figure and thought "not much point offering a good SPL package, won't be of interest to most".
