Why are almost all successful entrepeneurs male?

Has anyone else noticed how almost all successful, rich entrepeneur, especially in the tech industry, are male, even though women have exactly the same opportunites in the entrepenurial world. Even in the younger generation, there are lots of young men becoming incredibly successful entrepeneurs (for example, Nick D'Aloisio, Jack Cator) but no girls. Why is this?

Giselle Bundchen, Ariana Huffington, Anita Whatsit from Body Shop, her that started Spanx, Deborah Meaden and Hilary from Dragons Den, Beyoncé, etc, etc. Of course, sexism makes it a LOT harder for women. But you probably just want to think we're inferior, do you OP?

My guess is because men are brilliant, creative geniuses and women are timid plodders. The plodders then become pregnant using all their meagre creative ability to trap the brilliant entrepreneurs into parenthood and then spend all of the entrepreneurial gains on gin, fags, cakes, nails and sexy tennis coaches.

Oh, that's an easy one: Because men steal women's ideas.

It's that situation where a woman says something, she is ignored, and a couple of moments later, a man says the same thing, and is applauded for his genius.

There recently was a movie about that couple where the woman painted awesome pictures and the man sold them and claimed them as his, and the thing went to court and they both had to paint in front of witnesses.

I work with student entrepreneurs and overall the difference between make and female students tends to be that the males expect support, funding etc and have no issues with asking for it. The female students tend to feel they need to be liked so they try to struggle on without accessing support. It takes time and effort to persuade the female students that asking for support does not make them a failure. The societal conditioning / gender expectations are a huge hurdle to overcome.

I've answered assuming you wanted a real answer.

No... it's because girls are crap and only like pink and kittens and dresses and cry when their boss falls in love with them and tells them off.

Also because girls have periods and smell and are all icky.

Someone needs to get the can of trollbegone out and have a spray around.

Because most investors are male and pale - and it's psychologically easier to approach "people like you"

Because the pay gap means later in life entrepreneurs have had more chance to build savings if they are male.

Because those same men network with others earning what they do (also men) who might invest in them or otherwise encourage them to go for it

Because women still typically have more caring responsibilities so find it harder to put in start up hours.

Wish I could remember where I read it but there was a theory that it is because men are less risk adverse. The theory is that we through our nurturing nature are more inclined not to take risks. If you look at failed businesses I would expect the majority of failures to be men. We will look at opportunities and only take them if we are pretty sure we will be successful. Obviously this is a massive generalisation but in terms of start ups we are now seeing an increase in women starting new businesses. Hopefully in 10 to 20 years time we will see the fruit of this with increased numbers of successful women led businesses.
