Everyday sexism - golfing pirates?!

I'm wondering if anyone can help me get my thoughts in order so I can write a reasonably eloquent letter.

Situation thus:
My local garden centre (a Wyevale) has recently installed a pirate-themed mini-golf course. It is decorated with about ten pirates - all except one are fully dressed with shirts, jackets etc. The odd one out is of course the sole female pirate, who is wearing a shirt knotted up to expose her belly, a very small miniskirt, and is sliding down a rope. Even the skeleton pirates are properly dressed, but heaven forbid the token female be anything other than sexual decoration.

If there were multiple females, or the male pirates were also half-dressed, then it might be forgivable, but this is awful, isn't it? I'm properly pissed off, but not sure how to express my disgust.

Oops, I've made duplicate threads. I've asked for the other one to be deleted...

Totally agree.
I saw something very similar at Milton Keynes when they had a pirate themed crazy golf.
There were 'signs' all around the 'boat' saying various pirate-y things, spoken in a speech bubble by a male pirate.

One of them said 'No women allowed'

Grim.

Same here, there's posters just like that. I didn't see a "no women" one, but I'll look more carefully next time! It's probably the same company. So depressing.

Yes, I bet it is Sad Keep a look out for the sign.

YonicScrewdriver · 21/07/2015 16:41

OP, google Wookey Hole pirates. I reckon you've got the same model...

maamalady · 21/07/2015 16:49

Yeah, looks very similar, Yonic, the creepy pirate figures look like they're the same ilk. My garden centre one is on a much smaller scale, though (thankful for small mercies, I suppose).

I don't know whether it would be better to have no female figures at all than the only one be "sexy".

I've visited an attraction where the scantily clad female pirates had been rendered modest, with bits of sheeting. Guessing it was in response to a customer complaint, so you never know, you may be able to get her a bit less sexualized. Although the sheet solution did look a little silly.

Go armed with a marker pen and if you see the "No Women Allowed" sign, write UP GRANUAILE!!!! in big letters underneath :-)

WhirlpoolGalaxyM51 · 22/07/2015 19:40

NowSissy I would take that sign (somewhat literally) to mean that they do not want custom from females of any age.

Seems like an unusual sales approach.
