Thoughts on 'this girl can' video?

There was an interesting debate on the news about this video, sorry I don't know how to link to it but if you google 'this girl can you tube' it will come up. It is a health promotion video to encourage women to take up sport/ physical activity. One commentator felt it was great as it showed women of various shapes and sizes and ages ( though oldest looks in 40's to me). Other felt it sexualised women, with unnecessary close ups of bums, midriff, breasts. I tend to sympathise with latter view I think. Would be interested in views of others.

I know what you mean, but I think it represents a step change in advertising to women.

So often adverts aimed at women either use "perfect" women or play on insecurities, whereas advertising to men is often based on the message "you're fucking great, but we can make you even more brilliant". I saw a comedy sketch on it once (can't remember who it was) and it's so true.

I think what is good about the advert is it's focused on exercise for health reasons rather than body image reasons. I think it sends the message that wobbly bits are ok, you can be healthy and wobbly.

I really liked it. I know some people side-eyed the "damn right I look hot" part but given it was followed immediately by the lady with the rather fabulous fan I take it as a wry play on words.

I liked that there were women of all ages too. The netball ladies in particular looked like they were having the most fun ever (nice way to dispel the horror that was school netball too)
