Good storybooks with female characters

DS is 3 and loves being read stories but I've noticed most of the books we read (which aren't dinosaur related) have a male main character. I've noticed when he's playing the female toys need to be recused. He also only uses 'he' not 'she'. I'd like to introduce more female characters into his world. Any recommendations for picture books at a preschool level with interesting female main characters?

Zog (male dragon, female princess who wants to be a doctor).

The Worst Princess (great fun - again, female princess, male dragon - who sets the sexist prince's pants on fire, a sure fire favourite plot device with any small child).

This one came up on a threat about black / BME characters in stories but it's also suitable here - it's a fab story about a little girl who creates a playground:

Big, big, sea by Martin Waddell is good as well
