Teenager asked to leave prom after dads complain she would give sons impure thoughts

linky

The young lady in question sounds like she's got a point:

"I am so tired of people who abuse their power to make women feel violated and ashamed because she has an ass, or has breasts, or has long legs."

I'm horrified that she was treated like this!

Sounds like the dad's were having impure thoughts about her to be honest!

Perhaps their sons should have been removed, and receive support so that they are able to cope in the real world without a chaperone.

scaevola · 15/05/2014 09:55

I'd remove the fathers.

Yes, teen boys are still learning how to be adults and how to interact with people they have only recently noticed are attractive. They might get it wrong. From time to time.

But I think they are far less like to get it wrong (or learn from mistakes) if they are not receiving the message that what is wrong is the "fault" of someone else's appearance.

Of perhaps if X number of girls need to be removed because of their appearance, than an equal proportion of the handsomest boys should also be barred?

I agree with all of you. It's transparently obvious that the dads were the ones thinking the thoughts.....

Dear me. There is just no end to this sort of crap, is there? Good for that girl for blogging about it, I'm glad she's not been crushed by it.

The dads should've been kicked out. I like this young woman, she sounds like my DD2, only less sweary.

Though, according to DD2s best friend this is pretty common. Apparently I'm one of the few dads of teen daughters who doesn't leer, make suggestive comments or grab handfuls of arse. That makes me sad for my DDs friend and angry at her friends' dads. It's vile and it's up to us men to stop it. Personally I do call men out when they're obviously 50 and ogling teenagers, because it's disgusting.

What a fantastic young woman!!

Am I alone in being enthused at the sheer amount of young women - all so eloquent and witty and SO sharp - who are now speaking out on behalf of women??

So many men/boys bitterly whinge and moan (in spite of their unearned privilege) while young women get out there and DO things.....I am every day proud to be female!!!

KoalaFace · 15/05/2014 21:45

NeilDiamond what an absolutely brilliant thing to take from that. I was all doom and gloom having read it. I felt depressed by this young woman's experience.

But you've honed in on the positive. And it's a bloody good point.

Thanks for redirecting my thoughts! Grin

What an appalling story.

In other news, a UK school bans skirts for female pupils as some are wearing them short and they are giving "messages" apparently.

Fucking does my head in.

Victim blaming shite, all of it.
