So for those of you who are fans of 'Outnumbered', the popular sitcom about a beleaguered couple and their kids, the eldest son is actually the real life son of Linzi Drew, a porn actress and 'Ben Dover', a director and maker of many a British porn film. To his credit, the son seems to have turned out to be a very well balanced young man and has created some TV programmes about issues relating to young people today. The first is this Wednesday and ironically is about porn and its effect on young people. It looks really interesting, link to follow..,

Not sure it is ironic at all. It is exactly why he is doing the programme.

Will be interesting to hear his conclusions, as he will have better knowledge than us about what the industry does to families.

Reminds me of the documentary Alicia Douvall did with her daughter, who hated glamour modelling.

It looks very much as if he's going to express the "ethical porn" point of view: "Porn is always going to be there and we’re always going to be sexual beings who enjoy watching other people have sex. It’s harmless and enjoyable if done correctly...We need to stop restricting certain sites and change the type of porn that’s on the internet. I don’t think we should be slapping women around and saying ‘You whore!’ It should be real sex. The main problem is that internet pornography isn’t a true representation of sex."

I hope it's not betraying the cause to be amused by "A friend would come round and they’d say, 'This is Pascale. Mummy and Daddy take pictures of Pascale having a special hug with Charlotte.'"

Personally I think the problem with all porn is that it's designed for a male viewer and is therefore all about male desire. I have never ever seen any porn that is about what turns women on, slow, erotic, sensual and so men will never learn how to be good lovers from watching it and young women get the message that sex is just about pleasing men ( let alone all the abusive gagging, double penetration etc...)

It's this Thursday (not Wednesday) on BBC3.

It's because it's built on prostitution and rape of women and pimps earning money. Porn looks that way it does because it's not about two lovers magically willing to be filmed but men using a prostitute. Prostitution and abuse is the base the porn industry is made of. The men rule. Women are the objects and only there for money. Or forced to be there. You can't make woman-friendly porn with that base material.

When used to watch porn I thought "woman friendly" - a tiny little minimal subcategory - meant "for women." Now when I think back I actually think it means "not horribly abusive to the prostituted woman being filmed". That was all that was different.

I'm lead to believe that there is "fairtrade" porn for those who like to be aware of the production methods, actors/actresses consent etc.

I haven't looked into it with much enthusiasm though (the article I read was in the Metro - freebie newspaper), after some of the stuff I've read about the porn trade it kind of puts you off the whole genre.

SolidGoldBrass · 14/05/2014 23:42

There is ethical porn. There is currently quite a movement going on where the people who make ethical, feminist, fairtrade porn are starting to band together and promote their work.

TBH there have been people making porn for a female audience and/or mixed audiences for over 20 years. It's just now that we are reaching a point where it's becoming more possible to spread the word.

Did anyone watch it?
