The tyranny of "pretty"

www.telegraph.co.uk/women/womens-life/10727110/Pretty-pressure-Girls-it-pays-to-be-pretty-but-not-too-pretty.html

This is the third link I've given in the past few weeks to Stella - the S.Telegraph's colour mag.

The first concerned the tyranny of pink glitter for girls.
The second concerned the disaster of the legalisation of prostitution in Germany.
This one concerns the obsession with being pretty for a girl, as opposed to being valued for what she does.

All maybe a little surprising for the colour mag of a newspaper that is perceived as fairly right wing.

I think Stella staff must be reading FWR for ideas.

But good on 'em anyway.

Wow Sheila Jeffreys quoted in the Torygraph! I'm getting to like this Stella Magazine. Comments are predictably rubbish though.

"Contrast that with a recent Mintel survey that revealed that six out of 10 seven-year-olds wear lipstick, and two in five eyeshadow"

Is it really this bad in you guys experience? If so what the fuck is wrong with parents today?! Sorry but I find this so messed up. My children are 3 and 4 but I'm starting to dread them getting older and the world I've brought them in to.

The author is Hannah Betts - she used to write for the Guardian Grin
