Is it the law?

Instead of printing pictures of pop stars, you must print pictures of women in dresses.

But not the older, plainer ones. Nor men.

Tis the law Confused

I noticed the lack of men.

itshardthinkingofanickname · 20/02/2014 20:28

I think there must be a law about the minimum number of pictures of women a paper must have on the front page per week.

If you're the Daily Star, it must be a women wearing virtually no clothes Sad

Im ashamed to say how many of them i hought looked lovely thhough

NiceTabard · 20/02/2014 22:20

YY

But this "they look lovely" is a sexist societal construct.

I'm sure they did, but if we were in ancient greece or something, the pictures might have been of young men in clingy clothes. And everyone would have said "they look lovely" or strong or whatever the words were in those days for built young man in loincloth.

Yes of course young attractive people are nice to look at. But older people are still there. Even female ones!

It is so horribly one-sided now. Did you all see the cate blanchett thing BTW?

StickEmUpBigStyle · 21/02/2014 16:18

Sorry.

NiceTabard · 21/02/2014 16:39

Oh not to be sorry! I didn't mean it that way, I'm sure they did look lovely! I just find it interesting how it's all one way!

Cate Blanchett thing:

here is well good

Hehe, as a staunch rad fem I thought I'd see how it felt to express what came naturally as well as how I felt politically about the brits coverage.

It was interesting to see all the drunk pics too.

That said, I wonder if there was equal coverage of men would that be bad too?

Concentrating on the women is a good thing sometimes, but actually in this case not as the article is about looks then about the drunkness.

Coz Yeh women can't get drunk.

That last line is a bit ironic considering I'm bored in an AA meeting!!!

On phone so I hope the above is coherant

There was an interesting article on women's pictures in papers and the "role" of the picture.

A stark difference between men's pictures - them doing something, being seen as leaders whilst women are seen as victims or objects to be leered at looked at. Kate Middleton being the obvious one.

Leaders or objects.
Perfectly put.

StickEmUpBigStyle · 21/02/2014 20:33

Kate - interesting.
Royal- leader!

She is isn't she. Still vilified.
