AQA proposing different exams for girls and boys

Link here.

What do you think? I'm appalled. I'll bet if this goes through the 'girls' exam will end up being though of as inferior. Not to mention of course that these 'exam vs coursework' differences are broad generalisations - I used to beat the boys hollow on exams thank you very much. Hmm.

Surely, given that regardless of gender children have different learning styles, the only fair solution is to have one exam with a balance of coursework and exams?

Oh this makes me so cross.

Provide two different assessment routes, fine. But why the fuck gender them?

Boys won't be prevented from sitting the girls exam. Oh, jolly good. Why not just call them option A and option B then, instead of boy/girl?

DropYourSword · 13/10/2013 18:05

Yep, absolutely ridiculous to gender them!!

42RedBalloons · 13/10/2013 18:09

I agree that it's a ridiculous idea, but that news article is over 3 years old.

SpecificRim · 13/10/2013 18:10

Fuck. This is ridiculous. I will not stand for it.

SpecificRim · 13/10/2013 18:11

Ha. Well spotted!

I don't even agree with having two assessment routes - what do you think would happen in practise if this happened? They'd have to be taught separately, so there would be peer pressure which to opt for, and I bet that boys would get the idea that the exam route was 'theirs'.

Oh - apologies - there was a link to it from another piece, I didn't notice the date. Wonder if AQA binned the idea? (hope so!)
