I'm on the lookout for books for my little girl that aren't pink and about ponies! I'm sick of reading them with her - even though she isnt! I know this might be a random question, but all these pink books are making me a bit sick...

There are loads of books that aren't pink. I've two girls and I can't think of a single book we have that is pink.

What sort of thing are you looking for?

There's loads of great books around that aren't pink - although with the abundance of stuff like rainbow fairies etc I can see where you're coming from!

Do you have a local library with a decent children's section? You could always have a browse on your own. I work at a big library and am often asked to suggest books. :)

It depends what you're looking for - do yo umean books that specifically say they're for girls? (in which case, yeah, that's not going to happen)
do you mean activity books?
or do you mean fiction?

Activity books - just pick normal books and eschew the pink/girl ones.
for fiction - choose something your daughter is interested in.

A good bookshop will have a variety of books to choose from and will be able to recommend something.
Not all of us like to stock the pink stuff.

looking at my shalf for suitable for 7yo, I can see:
Flat Stanley
Agatha Parrot
Grace (Alice Hoffman)
Roald Dahl
Mr Majeika
Paddington Bear
The cat who got carried away (older Allan Ahlberg)
Astrosaurs
Anne Fine
Dick King-Smith (but maybe avoid Sophie if you don't want horses)
Judt Moody
Kate DiCamillo
Shirley Hughes (too frightening for me is a classic)
The Worst Witch
Jenny Nimmo (farm stories)
Winnie the Witch (reading books)
Stan Stinky
Ottoline
Jeremy Strong
Bel Mooney
Delilah Darling
Jeanne Willis
Holly Webb

Anna Hibiscus series
The butterfly lion - Michael Morpurgo
Roald Dahl - Matilda, The Twits, Charlie and the Chocolate FActory etc.
David Walliams - Ratburger, Mr Stink, Gangsta Granny

There's tons of great children's books around which aren't pink and girly yet would still appeal to a 7 year old girl.

The classics aren't generally pink. Pinking everything is a new and horrible phenomenon but my DD has enjoyed Pippi Longstocking, Naughtiest Girl in School, Wind in the Willows (an edited version), Black Beauty (ditto), Just So Stories none of which are pink.

I'm also having success with Bad Cat Good Cat (Lynne Reid Banks), Mr Majeika (Humphrey Carpenter) and Judy Moody (Megan McDonald).

Even the little white horse isn't very pink (am just considering it for my son). How to train your dragon books would be good too.

I love Lemony Snicket (series of unfortunate events) - main girl character is brilliant.

please don't link to Amazon.

All of the books i listed and you listed are available from proper booksellers.

if you must list online retailers, then list www.hive.co.uk , as they give a ~(albeit very small) commission to your nearest independent.

thanks for all these suggestions! Yes, I was after fiction books, and I generally let my daughter pick what she likes from the bookshop, which all happen to be pink. She is quite girly, and so goes for books with girl characters or girly things, like fairies, ponies and princesses on them! I've read so many of these books and apart from the pinkness, don't think they're any good!
