Two way mirror in Glasgow nightclub

Hi there, could I ask you to get behind this campaign to boycott a large Scottish chain of bars and nightclubs, especially if you are in Scotland? They installed a 'fun' two way mirror in one of their clubs so that men could observe women in the toilet - as described here
www.scotsman.com/scotland-on-sunday/opinion/comment/comment-misogyny-of-two-way-nightclub-toilet-mirrow-1-2944806#.UaH5jGmbDGR.facebook
Please join their Facebook campaign if you agree that this is pretty grim...
www.facebook.com/BoycottG1Group
One of their doormen tweeted 'the club has been full of the absolute best cunts and minge' which is probably representative of their attitude to women in general....
Thank you!

Grim. Have already joined, and I actively avoid G1 venues since the racist doormen incidents some years ago.

edam · 27/05/2013 11:59

wtf? Seriously? Good grief.

edam · 27/05/2013 12:05

even more gross, just read the Scotsman story, gather it's only customers who hire a private booth who can spy on the women's loos. erk.

edam · 27/05/2013 12:05

this story deserves a vomit emoticon...

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 27/05/2013 12:08

Ugh, hiring a booth? Yuk.

samandi · 30/05/2013 22:51

WTAF?? Is this a joke?

StealthPolarBear · 30/05/2013 22:53

surely this must be against the law in some way?

Presumably it's made clear to women as they go in the club and into the toilet? (not that that makes it right at all)

scottishmummy · 30/05/2013 22:58

comes down to informed consent.were the women aware at point entry it's visible?
is there alternative provision for those who decline?do they have another facility
club will try argue they've put up sign, visible warning to females.imo it's inadequate and poorly advertised

mrscumberbatch · 30/05/2013 23:01

It is awful, we tried to hire a booth so that we could go and gurn in the windows and generally be gross but it's £800 to hire that room!!?!?!??!?!!

Who in Glasgow would spend £800 on room hire? In a Stefan King shithole? When you could easily be in a private members club instead.

Whole thing is shite. Even the club name was stolen from another club night.

Anyone with any common sense avoids G1 meatmarkets.

BOF · 30/05/2013 23:07

It's a brilliant article, I think; it's so true that we need to be showing solidarity with each other and fighting misogyny rather than in-fighting about more abstract political differences within feminism.

scottishmummy · 30/05/2013 23:09

in the booth the occupants aren't visible to the ladies in toilets, why hire booth to gurn at mirror?
if one wanted to wind up booth occupants you'd be gross and pick nose be tiresome
after all they're paying expecting to see women unguarded, and unsuspecting

mrscumberbatch · 30/05/2013 23:13

Because we wanted to go and take pictures of ourselves being disgusting Scottishmummy Wink not actually be disgusting for other people.

Naah I think we just won't be going. Ever. I was offered a job with G1 group and turned it down because I feel like they're a bunch of shysters.

BOF have you read Louise Mench's recent article?

guardian link

I don't always agree with her but she's made a similar point to you in that there's so much tit for tat pettiness within feminism that the core value doesn't get dealt with.

KrazyKurls · 30/05/2013 23:13

This is awful, nights out in Glasgow have certainly changed since I was a clubber!

BOF · 30/05/2013 23:20

Thanks for linking that, mrscumberbatch.

KrazyKurls · 30/05/2013 23:22

Actually that was flippant, it was full of leeches 10 years ago but this is appalling! Surely no one is using the loos?

scottishmummy · 30/05/2013 23:25

in fact plenty go,has long queues to get in.its stowed

mrscumberbatch · 30/05/2013 23:27

It's in prime 'Wannabe WAG' area so yeah, it's busy most of the time it seems.

Fancy a night out Scottishmummy? Wink

KrazyKurls · 30/05/2013 23:31

Could be a MN meet up venue Wink

mrscumberbatch · 30/05/2013 23:34

Best idea ever!

scottishmummy · 31/05/2013 10:12

my clubbin days are long gone.never was a meat market goer.more su gaffs
seriously,I see the vertiginous heels, wee clothes and think are ye no baltic in that?
I don't have issue with venue, have issue with the mirror as a burlesque entertainment.salacious paid for titillation of women

AgentProvocateur · 15/06/2013 18:45

An update on this - the club has lost its license for a week, and has been ordered to remove the mirror.

Also, another G1 venue is in the news today - the Polo Lounge, the city's best know gay club - refused entry to a gay rights campaiger in a wheelchair. The Polo Lounge website is removing negative comments from its Facebook Page.

SauceForTheGander · 15/06/2013 19:21

Jeez the degradation of women in nightclubs reaches a new low.

Annunziata · 15/06/2013 23:12

My DD goes there.

Fuck.
