Are there any good books out there introducing feminism to 9/10 yr old DDs?

There are lists of fiction books that have strong, positive female main characters, if that's what you mean. Or do you mean non-fiction books about women getting the vote etc?

The old swedish tv show is also good, you might be able to find that on dvd.

Don't forget the importance (perhaps even more so) of introducing feminism to your DSs as well. I would be interested to see if there is anything to capture my DSs' interests, especially DS 1, aged 9.

OK, so what would be the 10 guiding principles of feminism in terms a 9/10 year old girl (or boy) would understand?

How about something like: if the boys don't think about it, you don't need to think about it either - ie, 'are my legs fat?', 'I shouldn't join the chess club cos it's only for boys', etc etc.

There may be something on A Mighty Girl... although I don't remember noticing anything (but there are a lot of really good fiction and non-fiction books on there so it's worth checking out)

This isn't exactly what you're looking for, but sounds promising... but it's nearly £70! It might be available from the library, though.

My dd (10) loves Girls are Best, by Sandi Toksvig. It's not specifically about feminism, title says it all really, it's about all the unsung important women throughout history. What could be a better place to start exploring feminism than there and talking more about why they are unsung, though I think it may go into that in the book, haven't read it myself, maybe I should!

If boys don't think about you don't need to is a good one.

But also, if boys do think it you don't automatically have to.

actually of course it should be 'Never let anyone tell you ...'

what about 'Practise looking people directly in the eye and being assertive'

tho might need to be tweaked to suit their age ...

or ... 'You have just as much right to anything as the boys, whether it's to be heard, teacher's time, food, space, fun ...'
