"yes, that's riiiiight..."

"girls are princesses."

"ah. Well, that's right that some girls are princesses, but none that we know."

"yes!! Jenny and Gwen are princesses!!" (names changed, obv)

"no dear, they just wear pink shiny nylon dresses."

so, what do I do now? How do we get over the princess thing with our boys without rubbishing the make-believe of other children?

I think you handled it very well :) Gently challenging is the way to go.

Babette Cole.
Princess Smarty Pants.

That will solve it.

Yy to Smartypants. And The Worst Princess. When her prince expects her to sit in her tower wearing nice dresses, she dumps him in favour of the dragon.

I was thinking of a compare and contrast of fairytale princesses and real ones. real ones have to smile and be interested and nice to people every day, have perfect table manners and write thank you letters promptly. they have lots of money that they can't really spend on themselves. they don't get to choose their own holidays mostly and they never ever use rude words

fairy princesses just wait for some ponce on a horse to pitch up. and they're not real.
