I don't think your questions are well worded/thought out, didn't complete it, if you re-post a better survery I will complete it
good luck

DEMLOUNEW · 08/05/2012 12:41

Thanks for the feedback , the questions are aimed around the fourth wave and the generation it will be effecting . I'll look into changing some questions x

The questions you are asking don't seem to be working towards answering the question that the survey is based on (which I happen to think is the wrong question to ask). The first question on the survey is like an essay question and in complete contrast to the rest of the questions which are one word answers.

Agree with monkeymoma - comeback with a better thought out survey and I'll be happy to answer.

AbigailAdams · 08/05/2012 12:54

And the Rihanna/Beyonce question steers you towards two answers, neither of which I would want as my answer.

DEMLOUNEW · 08/05/2012 13:22

I hope these questions are a little clearer for yourselves :) really appreciate the help!

It's things like this that give "Women's Studies" the reputation for being a soft subject. You can't even spell "sexualities".

DEMLOUNEW · 08/05/2012 14:01

Sorry I'm dyslexic I didnt realise

OP posts:
Nyac · 08/05/2012 14:04

What does this have to do with women's studies Cao?

It's a survey monkey posted on an internet bulletin board. I'm not seeing the connection with academia.

Nyac · 08/05/2012 14:06

Mind you I think the stuff about celebrity role models is obnoxious and has nothing to do with feminism. People just like slagging women off don't they? Bottom line.

imnotmymum · 08/05/2012 14:10

Maybe it is to give ideas for threads on Mumsnet. A lot of leading bias questions on there." With celebrity culture having such a heavy influence on young women" Is it where your evidence ? Should we be asking who best and worst role model ? Change this idea of beauty ideal ? whose idea ?? Badly drawn up questionnaire and if this is for academic purposes then the data will be refuted.

DEMLOUNEW · 08/05/2012 14:17

Ok thank you all for sharing your thoughts, I'm a 18 year old student and I thought I would be able to find the answers and help I needed from parents involved or interested in the movement.

OP posts:
imnotmymum · 08/05/2012 14:19

That is fine but you need to research questionnaire and their design. It is so important to be ethical and unbias in your work. What is your course?

DEMLOUNEW · 08/05/2012 14:20

BA fashion with photography

OP posts:
AbigailAdams · 08/05/2012 14:33

Well I have answered it apart from q4 as I couldn't and didn't want to anyway. Not sure the answers are the ones you want to hear.

imnotmymum · 08/05/2012 14:37

Oh I see. Really good angle linking to feminism, however you should have had lectures on research design. I knew where you were coming from but just need tweaking a little. Designing a questionairre is very tricky get a good book [Bell or Denscombe and follow guide] Should always get someone to look over it as well.

You might be interested in this blog DEMLOUNEW if you're interested in feminist critique of media.

Don't really want to take part in a survey that encourages the criticism of female celebrities though.

DEMLOUNEW · 08/05/2012 14:40

Can I just ask why you didnt answer question 4 ?

OP posts:
AbigailAdams · 08/05/2012 14:44

Well there was no way of showing best and worst. But more importantly I didn't really want to add to the millions of spurious judgements made on these women every day of their lives. It is just upholding patriarchal values.

DEMLOUNEW · 08/05/2012 14:45

Abigail your feed back was exactly what I needed all along thankyou for helping

Also thank you Nyac and imnotmymum

Could I also recommend Beauty and Misogyny by Sheila Jeffreys to you DEM?

DEMLOUNEW · 08/05/2012 14:49

You could , thank you very much for the constructive feedback

the discussion on here is very useful even if my survey hasnt been :)

garlicbutty · 08/05/2012 15:05

I've answered. Your questionnaire design was terrible, but I'm allowing for you being 18 and not a research-based student Wink

Very much seconding your reading recommendations, above. Happy learning, and good luck!

Nyac · 08/05/2012 19:50

Yes good for you for being interested in this at eighteen and having the gumption to go and do some research. There's nothing wrong with the ideas behind the survey and what you're trying to find out - you might just need to think through the questions a bit more.

allthegoodnamesweretaken · 08/05/2012 20:12

I'm doing a social science degree atm, for our module on social science research, we used the book 'research with people:theory plans and practicals by Holt and Walker. This should be useful to you if you are wanting to conduct an academic study. Sounds like an interesting topic, hope you haven't been put off and come back with an improved questionnaire. good luck
