My son's homework.

Architects.

Choose one of these famous architects - describe their work, give background info etc etc

The list?

All male. Every one.

I made him do his project on Zaha Hadid instead.

AIBU?

I made the one tower block is much like another comment and I stand by it only on the basis of looking at the Wikipedia entries for the modern architects on that list. For three or four of them their signature buildings were modern tower blocks and they really really didn't look very exciting/different/groundbreaking.

It was not immediately obvious why they stood out, and therefore why they should have been selected over including one or two of the female architects that have recently been making waves. My sister is an architect by the way, as are a few of my friends, my uncle is deep into design stuff and it is an area I am interested in (for example we took a massive detour on a recent tour of the US to visit Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling Water). I don't claim in any way to be an expert but please don't assume because I might take a feminist viewpoint on this that I am therefore an ignoramus when it comes to architecture. My view on this is as much on the educational aspect in any case, given that Hecate's son is in early secondary (assuming your profile is up to date Hecate!) I really don't think that the work was an in depth analysis.

Well if it's got Le bloody Corbusier in it, it's not all good architects is it? Significant, if you must. Groundbreaking, certainly. Influential, ok. But 'orrible.
