More cave-man sexism at Westminster

After David Camerons "calm down dear" remark a few months back, now we have another male MP coming over all cave-man with a younger female MP.

Seriously ... Please remind me this 2011 AD and not 2011 BC. In what way could such a remark EVER be acceptable in todays workplace ? And we elect these people to formulate legislation on gender equality ? Unbelievable.

I should add that "getting a doing" up here (and I'm married to a Scotsman so I know the meaning) is considered the same as "getting a kicking" back down south. An utterly unacceptable phrase in any workplace...

I don't know, I see this as a bit of unacceptable bullying yes, but there's nothing inherently sexist about the comment to me. I could well believe him saying it about a man, too!

You might be right Bue, he looks the bullying type and we've all met a few in our time !

Sexist to threaten to give a woman a kicking? No, but it sure is a lot of other things!

In fact you might say he was an equal opportunities bully. He was quite as prepared to do her over as he would a male colleague, even though she was a woman. I wouldn't want to claim that this is to be applauded though.

totally unprofessional and unacceptable - but in scotland getting 'a doing' is a common way of saying 'being beaten up'... it can even mean a verbal beating up... a pupil might say they got a doing from a teacher if they got a big telling off...

it's not generally used in the sexual way that i think it is used outside scotland.
