What would you like talking dolls to say?

I'm a writer, I've been commissioned to write the script for an interactive talking doll.

I'm not asking you to do my work for me...but it struck me that with this job I have the chance to change/influence things a teeny-tiny bit!

So...as a regular on MN and as someone who has learned a lot from people on the Feminism boards...I thought, well...they won't mind if I ask for their two penn'orth will they?!

Check me out if you like...I've been here (under various names) for about 10 months...but you can see I'm for real if you do an avanced search on my name.

(not writing a comedy sketch about a feminist dolly or anything)

"Tiny Teena..she wees, she poops AND she's smashing the Patriarchy!"

So....jobs...hobbies....what would you like to hear from a talking pre-school aged doll? She's meant to discuss these things...

I'm going to be a doctor/astronaut/Prime Minister when I grow up.
I like mending engines.
I love maths.

It could recite times tables.

anastaisia · 13/06/2011 22:59

Oh, oh

Shall we go on an adventure today? (if yes make suggestions about random different things eg. Hunt for dragons, look for pirate treasure, rescue a princess or prince - mix it up for variety? Smile )

piprabbit · 13/06/2011 23:00

Ooooh - I like the adventure suggestion anastaisia.

swanker · 13/06/2011 23:04

"Put me back in the box, and get out the Lego"

SybilBeddows · 13/06/2011 23:05

RobynLou · 13/06/2011 23:08

I want this doll with all these phrases, except perhaps the legs one Wink

BertieBotts · 13/06/2011 23:13

Do I have you on facebook, HerBex? I'm going to add you so I can "like" it Grin

Valpollicella · 13/06/2011 23:21

"I don't need a free make up set with my shoes, I'm beautiful enough!"

Ref the new farking Lelli Kelly shoes that have a 'make up compact' as a free gift

Trills · 14/06/2011 16:48

I'll be the doctor, you can be the nurse

InmaculadaConcepcion · 14/06/2011 19:41

"Oh no, not pink again"
Grin

InmaculadaConcepcion · 14/06/2011 19:44

"Let's play 'Spot The Gender Stereotype...."

"Just call me 'Ms'"

"I like kung fu"

"Whatever I wear, wherever I go, yes means yes and no means no"

Trills · 14/06/2011 19:56

Definitely agree with the doll calling the child its friend, not mummy. Boys want to play with dolls too, and they can be friends but are not "mummy".

Ormirian · 14/06/2011 19:58

Nothing!

I hate dolls. I particularly hate talking dolls.

Does that help?

Grin
SybilBeddows · 14/06/2011 20:02

Grin IC.

I was thinking 'Sisters, unite! Reclaim the night!'

InmaculadaConcepcion · 14/06/2011 20:06

"I spy with my little eye, something beginning with 'P' - Patriarchy!"

HerBeX · 14/06/2011 20:10

"What's the tallest tree you've climbed? I climbed one with 20 branches!"

InmaculadaConcepcion · 14/06/2011 20:12

"I want a chemistry set for my birthday"

InmaculadaConcepcion · 14/06/2011 20:20

"When I grow up, I'm gonna be the Chief Exec"

NotJustKangaskhan · 14/06/2011 20:51

I like "Let's go on an adventure" as well as prefer friend (though if there is mummy, also include daddy).

For job ones:
I want to be a doctor! They help people get better! I have to study science to be a doctor! (similar with other science based jobs)
I want to be an Engineer and build tall building! I have to study numbers/maths to be an Engineer! (similar with other maths based jobs)
I want to work around the world! I should study many languages like (insert language and short phrase here).
I'm going to run my own business when I grow up! (I particularly would love this).

Other more general ideas:
"I/We can do it/anything!"
"I/We did it!" (I would also love this - my 2 year old says this in a way that says she is the boss of whatever she just did).
"Let's play with blocks/with trains/and so on"
"Let's see if we can find some bugs"
"Oh look! Bugs/Spiders/Snakes/Other typical 'boy' animal! Aren't they cool?"
"Oh look! A lioness! Hear me roar!" Grin

FrankieLee · 14/06/2011 23:33

I'm in love with the idea of a doll saying 'friend' rather than 'Mummy.' Mainly because I remember being hella creeped out at dolls calling me mummy when I was a child. I was like "I am NOT your mummy, fool," but in fairness I was quite an odd child.

It's a great way to break the social stereotype and get boys involved too Grin
