Dexter - careful, potential spoilers for Season 5

The writing on this show is superb. I just wish the female characters were more closely observed like the Dexter one, but then I guess that the other male characters are fairly one-dimensional. Batista, anyone? And yes, no victim-blaming. How refreshing is that! No "wrestling with the context" that you see in so many shows.

I think it absolutely makes sense to eye-for-an-eye in this context. There's a teeny part of me to which it makes sense in a real world context too. People can quote me instead, PH.

Oh, well reminded. I have the first book, unread. I am in need of an escapist book to read. I keep at least two books going at any one time, one of which must be on the trashy end of the spectrum.

Deb becomes more developed as the seasons go on, I think. I think she was conceived and portrayed as a flawed anti-barbie initially.

I've read several of the books (think I still need to catch up with the latest one) and just as a heads up they are really very different to the TV series. I'd say they start with basically the same characters in the same place, but then the TV series headed off in quite a different direction. There are several major plot twists in the books that didn't come out in the TV series with the kids, who knows what about who, and there are entirely different "Big Bads". Also as a spoiler-free warning, beware of the "yodelling potato" in book two. I found it proper nightmare fuel!

OK, I watched the last 2. My word. Yes, the victim story was written from a non-blaming perspective and I love it for that. And the fact that they brought in Deb's backstory which I feared they wouldn't which would have sent me into all sorts of apoplexy. Given that sensitivity, I don't get the character of La Guerta. That said, I have just started on the first book and her character has even fewer dimensions that the TV show.

As an aside, anyone know why I am getting wafts of human piss whilst sitting in my garden?

No kids. I think someone's been pissing up against my back fence. Weird, it smelled like knocked over jar of week long piss. Not that I would know exactly what that smelled like. Why do I always want to type "smelt" for "smelled"? And "spelt" for "spelled"? Is it a Yorkshire thing?

Anyway, Dexter. You know, having had periods of depression where I didn't really care about anything much at all, I feel like I can understand where hes coming from. Anyone else or am i just a psycho?
