I watched the porn documentary linked on the other thread. I found it very disturbing.

However there's obviously a big market for porn and I know both men and women are into it. I wonder if there might be a place for some sort of ethical porn, where people are not coerced or abused and there's a guarantee of proper treatment of those involved?

I know that doesn't address all the other arguments against porn but perhaps it would go some way towards ensuring the safety of those involved?

Sorry if this seems like a stupid point to make. I don't know much about this stuff but was rocked by that film.

It's consumerism, innit? Porn defines the user's fantasies. Then it comes up with some new ones so the user will keep on buying more stuff - just like we always want the newer phone, better detergent and so on. To keep on creating the need, pornsters have to use a lot of human resource in ever-more degrading scenarios. There are porn industry unions, but they're fairly toothless except for the one SGM mentioned, which wasn't even protecting its members' lives efficiently.

On a philosophical level, I find it interesting how this media explosion has made everyone's innermost thoughts & fantasies available to public view. As my granny used to say, people are queer fish Confused

I haven't a clue what could be done to improve things. I sort of pine for the days when a board of people in Wardour Street, headed by a posh & likeable gentleman, certified films using their blue pencil. They drew the line between what was acceptably sexy/titillating/scary and what might create problems. There's no going back to that, though, so where are we headed? Rollerball for real? I dunno.
