Oh no! Not Robert Webb! Doing a Toby Young. How tiresome - I used to love you well really Jez in Peep Show but you by extension

Prunnhilda · 26/03/2011 18:05

The fact that he is wrong is a given. He knows he's wrong too, I assume. That's the joke. It's about silly conspiracy theories. He has made one up and had a wee go at Mn presumably because Justine spilled a drink on him at a party, or he asked a question about baby poo and got laughed at - who knows?
It's really not worth analysing!

TeiTetua · 26/03/2011 18:09

If he writes it all, isn't he just talking to himself?

But I don't think he's me. Dunno about you.

Well at least he has provoked some thought eh?

I don't know why I'm here - it's not some misunderstood Meisterwerk that I feel I must defend!

You know, there are millions of websites where men are disagreeing with each other and their choices. But there they are "bikers" or "sailors" or "PC users" or "car owners". Or "film lovers" or "mountain bikers". Or just people.

He's confusing women with feminsts. Like a lot of people do and that's why they get all muddled.

Satireisbest · 26/03/2011 19:07

I think some people are being too defensive here and too easily offended.

If anyone has been on any sahm/wohm, breast/bottle, control crying threads
there isn't always a lot of help, support or advice.

And he said:

'I use the term "antifeminist" because the only sensible definition of a feminist is: one who is opposed to the oppression of women.'

He's not on about this part of Mumsnet.

How can you be mystified, Lenin? Women are terribly treated on MN. Are you saying you don't see it happening?

Oh for fuck's sake Dittany. It's very bloody tiresome having to revise my opinion about shit all the sodding time in the face of reasoned cogent argument. Bollocks to Robert Webb.

Can I keep David Mitchell?

tethersend · 26/03/2011 20:40

Um, aren't the examples he gives of conflicting advice a sort of... argument?

So arguments are evidence of antifeminism?

So feminists don't argue?

Prunnhilda · 26/03/2011 20:40

I suspect all of that was written precisely to get a rise out of the sort of person who is always going to react.
A pound to a penny RW has checked Mn twenty times today to see what reaction he's got.

Satireisbest · 26/03/2011 20:41

Actual quote is:

' I know headmasters and retired soldiers who make more convincing feminists than some of the women who take bilious swipes at each other on the Mumsnet forum'

It says 'some of the women'

AyeRobot · 26/03/2011 20:45

Well, he might learn something then.

I'm really glad some people haven't heard of JD. And glad that he's had to cancel his latest show because of poor ticket sales. The world has changed and the likes of him are from a bygone era.

Prunnhilda · 26/03/2011 20:50

I too was delighted that JD cancelled his show. When I first heard about it (in the context of it being his apology for his earlier material) I thought 'too fucking late, pal'.

Unrulysun · 26/03/2011 20:51

AyeRobot he's just written a play about a sexist racist comedian who is confronted with the wrongness of his opinions (or something) and done loads of press about how he's been finding it difficult to find work a reformed character. :(

Unrulysun · 26/03/2011 20:53

Oh - you knew that I see :)

I am glad to hear that. The opportunistic arsehole.

AyeRobot · 26/03/2011 20:56

Funny how reformed he didn't sound on Richard Bacon's 5Live show the other week. As soon as someone starts banging on about "it's all got too PC", it's a sure sign that they don't get it. It was a stunt. The nation didn't buy it.

Shame. Grin

MmeLindt · 26/03/2011 20:59

It is all a bit strange.

Yes, there are sometimes people on MN who are absolutely nasty to other posters - but look at Digital Spy or any other large forum. It is not just MN and it is not just women.

OP posts:
Unrulysun · 26/03/2011 21:10

Yes I agree. It's not as though, at the time, people weren't saying he was out of order. All this 'everyone else was doing it' shit doesn't really wash.

BaronessBomburst · 26/03/2011 23:43

I thought the article was just taking the piss out of conspiracy theories. Am I spectacularly missing the point again?

Disclaimer: I only ever get on MN in the middle of the night when DH and DS are asleep and I'm aways too tired to think/ read straight.......
