or do all the young people make friends on the internet these days?
is it just normal for them?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 29/03/2011 09:33

Ooh the youth of today.

I say "we met through feminism" which is actually true although we met online through AIBU books. Treacle will have to tell you how she explains my presence!

steamedtreaclesponge · 29/03/2011 09:55

I just say "Oh, Elephants did English (same subject as me) at (same university as me), only a couple of years below me"

Which is all true. Note that I never actually claim we knew each other at that point...

I still haven't told my housemates how we actually met, or that we only met in person the day before she met the rest of them!

I have told a couple of people that we met on Mumsnet. They tend to look a bit puzzled and then say, "so will you be living with children then?"

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 29/03/2011 11:10

ha ha, dh and I met on an online dating site and have thought we could always tell people we were at the same university when I was doing my PhD and he was doing his postdoc; never mind that we didn't actually meet then....

Hi everyone

We're really touched by the kind words about Feminism in London. As you know, Feminism in London is not going to happen this year, but several of us from the FIL 2010 committee really wanted to make sure a conference still happened. Unfortunately we don't have the time and resources to pull it together for this year, but we're organising Go Feminist on Saturday, 4th February 2012: www.gofeminist.org.uk.

We're really excited about seeing you there. We'll let you know more details as they're confirmed. Follow us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/feminism) or twitter @gofeminist to stay updated.

Caroline, Chitra, Giordy, Kate, Mary, Shannon

I'll make both events but knew about FiL being cancelled a while back! Gutted.

AliceWhirled · 14/06/2011 21:25

Transphobia? argh.

AliceWhirled · 16/06/2011 21:20

Is sexism really second from last on that list?? For a feminist organisation?

But surely sexism is central, and then they can also say that also recognise other -isms such as... etc.

sandhya72 · 28/01/2012 17:45

They are listed alphabetically. This does not mean that we think ageism is more important than sexism - just that a is before s! We hoped calling it go feminist would have made it clear that our focus is on feminist activism and this is the prism through which we will view all the other oppressions listed. We really hope to see you all there - there is a sliding scale from £0 to £50. Do pay what you can afford (don't get too hung up on the wage brackets). We hope to live stream it as well - watch our website, facebook and twitter for details.
